MPC 60 3.10 w/ s5000, and nord rack.

Im ready for a change. i want better sound than the 2kxl can give me. mpc 60 for 12 bit drums and akai seq., akai s5000 for filters and sample editing, hands-on rack synth like nord or access...midi keys too.

I really want a 4k but i have always wanted a 60. will the 60 hold me back as i switch from the 2kxl? what sample editing do i get form the s5000, is it graphic like the 2k w/ chopping? i have found many reviews describing the filters but not the sample trimming options...

i know these questions get old, just looking for feedback on this gear/combo...peace.

I used to have an S5000 and then an S6000. Rest assured, the editing/chopping interface is one of the easiest and most visual you'll find on any sampler. The large screen with all the soft keys beside it really make editing a breeze. And the whole interface couldn't be easier - I never had a manual with mine and I never needed one. BTW if you can stretch it to a 6000 you won't regret it. The detachable panel makes life so much easier if you're someone who spends a lot of time with his sampler.

I had that same combination also. 60+5000, Its dope. It works fun and pretty fast *If you zip on both machines..
The sound is awesome, off course. S5000 is a beast. MPC60 is a monster.
Tho I sold both and bought me an MPC4000. With no regrets.

Price:
MPC60 = +-750 USD/ euro
S5000 = +- 500 USD/ euro


When you buy the 60, be sure it has OS 3 installed. With previous OS 2, you cant use the pads to send note on/off out, together with the internal 60 sequencer. At least, I didnt figured out how and no one seems to know how.. So be carefull there, OS 3 is darn expensive.


The 4k is very good now. The new OS 1.7 is rock solid and very fast. USB connection is fixed etc etc.. If I were you, I would forget the 60, for now, and get me a 4k. And later on, if you see a rather cheap 60, buy that too for the crunchy, punchy sounds. Tho the 4k is also very punchy n crunchy!

I don't know. I think you can find an S6000 for around $1200 and a 5000 for around $900, but I might be off a little.

I was going to but I S5000 for like 400, so I know a s6000 can't be that far off. I just checked ebay they don't have any for sale in the US, but the ones overseas seem to be going around 550 dollars avearage, but I'm sure one will be for sale in the US soon.

I got a 6000 for 600. They should be cheaper now.

Ive seen 5000's for 300 bucks, but always missed them before they went back up )closed auctions.)

yo man, ill make up your mind for you! get the mpc4000.

i definately can see why'd you want the mpc60 combo, but damn, it just seems like it would be easier to manage all your samples in one unit, without zip! but im sick of midi setups, sick of it! (sorry)

if you get the 4000, then you can later find a 60 like ikke ^ said, then you wont have to worry about a OS 3 mpc60 at all, because it wont be your main piece-this means it will be cheaper.

or if you want some character, you can get a akia s950 to add to the mpc4000. Sample your drums into the 950, then sample the out puts of the s950. This would be cheap like 300 or less.

btw. im selling my mpc2xl, and getting the 4000 (should come in the mail this monday!) yeah!

Yep. And an S950 is only like a 150 bucks here in the Netherlands. Damn cheap!
