Akai probably anticipated that dudes would still be tethered to their computer so they made a limited batch to test the waters and at the high prices we see in the US. They were probably thinking of catering to a niche market and probably the units would've shipped already.

So now, they have to manufacture more units to meet demand causing the hold-up and perhaps why they haven't gave a hard date yet.

this is not a logical deduction Akai have been well aware of the high demand of a standalone ever since the Ren and Studio were first introduced.

So they fully expected to have a big seller with this new line; even when the Touch was release 2 years ago lots of people complained it was not standalone; and Akai's response was this is just the beginning.

Even though it's not the same thing by a long shot, Digitakt by Elektron is now taking preorders.
Shipping in May. I'm not even questioning them…got all my faith in that company.

You really gotta give them props for the site design…peep the various pages and the sound demos where you can hit buttons and twist knobs.

I was playing with the interactive demo earlier and thought it was shite to be honest. The Analog Heat one was better.

Damn its $679.00 now. What happened to the $600 to $650 range. Unless thats the MSRP and street prices are lower.

I hear the Digitakt is a little bit of all of Elektron's devices.

I like it, its cool but that box can't contain me with its limitations.

Look at the "Changelogs" and you will see that Akai is deleting a lot of legitimate user posts. This is seriously disturbing. They even removed my posts regarding the delay of the new MPC's citing it is knowingly written to inflame by being fraudulent or something to that effect. However, the delay information I posted came from an Akai representatives email that was read to me verbatim by a couple of my friends that work for some of the vendors that sell Akai. So if it was false it was from within Akai itself even though the information has panned out spot on thus far. Copy and share this before they remove it and likely ban me from posting. I am officially canceling my pre-order in a few minutes as companies behaving this way are the ones you can't trust to support the products they sell further down the line. PEACE.

Akai (inMusic Brand) seems to truly not care about their customers. I had hoped that they would turn it around and instead the MPC 2.0 software /Live & X release is turning into a repeat of the MPC Ren 1.0 debacle!

It would definitely help the current situation if Akai communicated directly with their customers. Cryptic Tweets don't count!!

I really do want the MPC Live to be my portable version of a Roland MV8800. At this point I may wait until 6 months AFTER the release to see how Akai address bugs and user feedback. :?

A point I actually have regarding posting that: I'll eat my shorts if they don't ship Digitakt in May.
Because you know they will. I suppose it's not that hard for a company to stick to a promised date…the secret to that is, unsurprisingly, finish the product and THEN do the marketing, and not the other way around.
*looks at Akai*

Deleting users' posts…honestly, that is weak.
Why don't they chime in, join the convo, and post some facts instead? Their policy is quite appalling, TBH.

Everyone who is pre-ordering either don't know the company they are dealing with or they simply do not care about their money.

Either way, I thank you for volunteering for the paid beta testing which is probably going to last at least 6 months. Good luck.

Really? Because it seem me and four others were the only ones screaming "STANDALONE!" when Akai had the Renaissance on the drawing board. Everyone wanted a controller and software and ridiculed us standalone guys saying we cling to the past and shit.

My plan is to primarily use the MPC Live in standalone mode. That said, I still need more detailed info on how well the MPC 2.0 software integrates with your computer in hybrid mode. I have too many unanswered questions regarding stability & overall reliability!

All the demos of the Live & X skirt around hybrid use. They focus on standalone. If the MPC 2.0 software is unfinished then Akai should put out an official statement. It is not an unreasonable request to ask a company to provide detailed information PRIOR to purchasing a product.

It feels like Akai/Retailers just want our $$$/preorders but don't feel the need to provide the necessary product details in order for customers to make an informed purchase decision.

Akai's social media was flooded with "Do another standalone" comments for some years...seemed like people's replies to every post about Ren or something else were begging for a standalone pretty bad.
