I don't think "vintage mode" would compensate for the Ren's look but if that was the intent, its pretty dated.

I remember being interested in the FLY at the time. I told Akai, that should've been a standalone touchscreen MPC. That looked ahead of its time. Not saying I was the only one suggesting it, because here we are; definitely there was demand. But the FLY was something I wished for, too bad it got canned before seeing light just can't make controllers for the ever changing iPad. I think Akai began seeing what we were seeing and came up with two titans.[/quote]

I mean old sneakers look dated next too new ones but, hey it's good. I like the vintage look+ we are a few years beyond the Ren and if they came out with anything looking like it, we wouldn't wanna buy it. Eventually they'll be as flat as IPads and can you imagine how the X would look next to one of them

Any guesses – would I be able to sequence the MPC Live from an external sequencer? Use notes to trigger different samples, CC to affect pitch/cutoff/etc... I know this hasn't probably been the case with the Studio, or has it?

You can connect an external midi device and use notes to trigger the samples. This is standard in every sampler. You also can connect a usb-midi keyboard to do that. I haven't read or seen anywhere if and to what extend you can use midi cc's to control the internal parameters and effects. No manual or midi implementation list yet. You could ask Pete Goodliffe from Akai: https://twitter.com/petegoodliffe. I guess for live performance with the Live using an external controller to control parameters and effects would be much better than using the touchscreen and go into menu's.

Strangely enough I think the X would be better than the Live for live performance (haha) because of the 16 q-links and more buttons.

Yeah, thanks. I think that's the best possible answer at the moment. Will just have to wait!

You can read a usb thumb drive then you can read an external hard drives. So you can scroll through your sounds from your external source.

as for external drive with the USB ports on the back of the X. I've done it on the X that I have. Its not a production unit but I dont see why that will change on the production units

A thumb drive is nothing but a mini hard drive. you're probably right about the other one sending info back and forth to the PC. Im happy about that. But there is no way none of them don't work with a PC.

Danoc wrote:Ummm l don't think thats right. You have 3 USB ports one is to run the 2.0 sw. The other 2 are to transfer to your computer. For example when you export stems out of the Live/X in standalone mode you can send them to your desk top so you can drop them immediately into a DAW. You can use the 2 usb to connect 2 external drives also

I'm pretty sure the two matching USB ports are for controllers / thumb drives, and the one box shaped one is for all two-way data (and hopefully DA) to the PC / Mac.

Well in stand alone mide you're looking at 2.0. But if you want to see it work on the computer is another story.

Elmar Jestro wrote:Good job on the comparison.

Are you guys actually testing the 2.0 software right now? Or just the standalones?
Asking this because all info is about the standalone units. And nothing official about the software.
