Hey Lamp, thanks for the response. The problem was the cpu just stopped working. It was the old AMD Athlon T-bird series. Also, my mobo was using sdram, so I figure if I'm going to get a new cpu, I might as well start using ddram. So that calls for new cpu, mobo, and ram. I heard to stay away from the VIA and SIS chipsets for audio. I don't know if that's true or not. How's your 2600 run? Can it handle alot? See, I just don't want to go overboard because I'm just using the computer to record and touch up effects, etc. I'm not creating any music on it. Thanks again for your response.
I don't remember offhand what chipset my mobo is I gotta look at it again.
I got 1gb DDRAM, 2600xp cpu and I'm fine. I can run ALOT of tracks with realtime effects simultaneuosly and not even notice a hiccup, until I get to like maybe 12 tracks with about 5-7 realtime effects each and 4 - 6 busses but I've only gotten up that high a few times in a year or so. T-bird series huh, I would have upgraded too. Even though you are not creating music on pc you are recording and you want to get a pc that's a little more than decent but it's not necessary to go all out or anything. Most people I know are not ALL OUT with their PC's and they are fine with what they have. Not even me for that matter. IMO CPU's and motherboards made for high end gaming are good for music production also, I've played with a few pc's that were strictly for gamin and they were fast when I loaded vegas, sound forge, t-Racks and a few other programs and ran them all at the same time. I would LOVE to have a soyo dragon though. IF you have an extra one laying around the crib hook me up, jk..
