Reorganizing your sample RAM may be needed several times *during* a sample session, depending on how much free memory is available, and the way you sample your sounds.

If you do a lot of sampling, and use rather larger chunks (the value used for the Time field in the record page), you could easily end up in an out-of-memory situation. It's a very natural situation.

what do you mean by alot of sampling?
i was on my mpc again last night, and it only allows me 1min of sampling.

is it to do with my ram? i think its only 20. how can i check?

When a sample is in the memory, it is in the beginning location (see it as a timeline), when u sample another sound, it sits next to the previous sampled\ loaded sample. Etc.. Now, when u delete sample 1, that place remains empty because the MPC places new samples after the last one previously loaded. At the right side of your timeline. So your timeline (memory stick in this case) could be full with lots of empty spaces between other samples\ data. Defragmenting will re-order those samples\ data, so you'll have free space again at the end of your timeline.

ok, but how about when i turn on my mpc with no data on it?
I load WAV samples and it says:

"Not enough WAV memory to complete this task"

It says that when i try to EDIT/REGION.

Ive only got 6 WAV samples, the longest being 43secs.

Ive loaded the samples from a 100MB Zip disk. How does it fit on there and not on my 20GB mpc??

I know about defragmentation but iam sure thats not the problem here.

it seems that you have only 16MB or very little memory on your MPC (just for notice, RAM mean Random Access Memory)

you gotta install some extra memory in your MPC (standard SDRAM, 256MB module with 2 sides (16 memory chips total), PC 100 or PC 133 at CL 2

'cos whether one of the memory module installed in your MPC is fried, or thare has been no extra module installed at all and in the current situation you are left with the basics 16 MB of RAM (which is very little, and is 90 seconds of sample sounds at 16bit/44.1KHz quality)

(EDIT)
^ Yes, check your amount of RAM.
goto; 'Global', 'Memory'. On top of page; 'Wave memory=400MBytes installed'

Did you installed the latest OS 1.7 ?

What kind of wav files are you editing? They might be corrupted. Transfer them via USB (Aksys) to a computer and see its options and settings. Maybe try converting them?
It looks like you have bad wavs in your MPC..

Do you experience the same with other wavs?

i wil thanx
havent installed the 1.7 OS yet, i dont wanna bring my mpc downstairs. coz thats where my pc is. iama wait till i get my studio pc then iama do it.

Its not the wav, because even when it comes to sampling from vinal it cant sample more then 1min somthing.
But that dosent even have anything to do with the ram though. Iam thinking maybee i got less then 20GB.

Edit:
Just checked my mpc and it says 16MB WAV Memory. Is that the RAM or the hard disk space?

I'm not sure but, they've been around for a while now. Judging by the way they package their products, i wouldn't doubt they deliver internationally. Send them an email, they'll respond pretty quickly - [email protected].
