WARNING: I am a rookie beat programmer!

:D Everyone here got ideas on how to properly assemble a track
so let's see who "really" knows how to produce a million dollar beat

Myself being a new jack has a very simple forumula
1. I create 4 bars
2. Load my sounds
3. loop on
4. start tapping/creating beat
5. once beat recorded
6. record on acid 4 (not on seperate tracks)

It may be time for me to figure out if using my 8 outboard
will make a difference on my tracks

seperate tracks = better beatz i guess

let me know if i am wrong

who can tell me how a Mannie Fresh, Timbaland, Dr. Dre assembles beatz

buy $1 mill worth of equipment...create any old beat...that would be a million dollar beat.....haha

nah seriously anything can be platinum....a lot of the quality is in the mixing...how you arrange the tracks after you have created the seq.
but practice does alot too cause with no practice you are gonna make the same garbage you was b4hand....

good luck

secret weapons?

after eq and compression where can you go?

i find the spl stereo jack vitalizer does something pretty damn cool to the sound, can make dull sounds come to life- plus has a bass element you can really crank up without muddying the mix.....need to hear it i cant describe it

a lexicon verb- on the newer models they have an algorhythm called ambience- this can be great to give your beats space but woithout reverb tails.....use on hats and snares to really separate and make em shine....

a million dollars? you can get a lexi of ebay for around £100-£200 and the spl is about £140.......plenty of change for that valve eq and and compressor.....

Knowledge, and a gimmick :D

Buy your beats from others and take the credit for production, find a few songwriters, a sexy female (or a guy that looks either thuggish, or looks like a female..b2k.. lil romeo) Once this is complete, add some guest spots on the cd.. 50 cent is hot.. he'l sell.. tupac vocals are nice too. Talk about being a thug, your rims, ice, platinum, the club, or girls that like to shake their @$$. Last, and not least, you have to make a video with nice cars, lots of women, and plenty of cash. Men, make sure you lick your lips a lot, and make the ladies show some cleavage.

In conclusion, simply don't keep it real. That's why Slum village/pete rock and many others struggle. Plenty of talent, but the public don't want that.

Good replies so far!
I'm going to take a bit more serious though. Instead of making a million$ beat, i think you should first try to make a million beats, and sell those for 1$ each. By that time you will not only be a millionaire, but also a competent producer. You can use the million to buy fancy cars and shoot your own video, like they mentioned above.

You should also look into recording everything on different tracks, and creating a few sequences with variations of your original sequence. Song mode.
If you already have the 8-out, and a soundcard that records more than 2 inputs at a time, there's no reason to wait till tomorrow to start using it. Start by putting your kick & snares on separate tracks, and adding some compression and/or reverb.
Think of it this way, if you would have a full orchestra playing, and they would all be within one square meter playing as loud as they can it wouldn't sound that great either right? Putting everything on separate tracks will help you adjust volume and eq, so certain instruments/sounds don't get lost in the mix.
Listen to your favorite cd on a pair of decent headphones and notice how they push back some sounds, or pan them to the right or left slightly to make them stand out.

The way to make a million dollar beat:

* Get a manager that believes you WILL bring in loads of cash (hard when you dont have a rep).

* Get a guest to appear on your track, it validates it as "quality" for the unsuspecting consumer (hard when you dont have rep, manager with rep or money to pay the artist). 50 Cent, Jay-Z and even Busta Rhymes will get you approval amongst the sheeps.

* Take a concept someone else made up and milk it for yet another hit, like Chingy did with Nelly. Very easy to make the track, but to get someone to promote it? Forget about it (unless of course, you have a rep, a manager with rep or a guest artist/producer with rep).

*Make LOADS of tracks with thuggish mc's that is brave/stupid/deperate enough to challenge most people in the "game" and maybe, just maybe you will get some attention and get signed by a major label. Worked for 50 Cent. Oh dont forget, its also good if you can validate the "thuggness" by having incidents that shows how crazy the bastard really is.

*Hassle mixtape dj's (extortion might work) into put your blinged out tracks on their tapes, but dont give it to dj's like DJ Revolution, DJ Babu, J-Rocc etc, because they seem to destroy the songs but cutting them up in a funky manner. Its way better to have someone that can scream loud and sound as excited as if they invented a way to run engines on water instead of beeing down with "payola".

*Forget about skills on the mic, on the turntables or diggin for that unsampled dope beat, having originality, having something meaningful to say etc, cause all of this will just help you to NOT get paid.

*Have a business sense, its way more important than having actual producing skills as you can always milk some dude trying to come up for his beats for an easy 500$ but you cant get anywhere with it if you dont have the business head.

Someone in this thread said, get Neptunes to ghost produce for you, Id say its the other way around; produce tracks and get "Produced by the Neptunes" on the label is way more likely to bring in the dough, as they made loads sucky ones but still charge insane prices for them.

Why is what they charge "insane"?

A lot of cynicism on here. If you really want a "million dollar beat" you gotta have somethin that's gonna make the girls shake it in the club. Bottom line.

if you want a million dollar beat you're going to have to do more than just learn how to load sounds into a sampler. learn how to make beats from the ground up. learn about music. listen to the hit makers of todays influences and their influences influences.

you can say what you want about the neptunes, but they started out in the middle school and high school bands around an assortment of instruments and other musicians. they've taken a sound and made it their own that a lot of producers (much like the cat who started this thread) are happy to bite. and they've also delved into various grenres of music and experimented with a host of different instruments.

my best advice to you for becoming a million dollar producer is to take the time to actually learn about music otherwise you'll be just another cat throwing out aweful music that does nothing but contribute to the shit we're stuck with listening to on the radio and on TV.

MAKE MUSIC FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC AND GET PAID TO DO IT, DON'T MAKE MUSIC JUST TO GET PAID.

Hold up! Now we using this forum to hate on another man style of producing.

I listen to a lot of producers style and I am close friends with several "known" producers out of New Orleans. (Many of the sounds I use in earlier tracks were given to me by these producers to help me build my sound library)

I am more than sure if we listen to ANYBODY beatz on this forum
well notice similarities to another known producer.

Its only natural to try make comparision.
But believe me, I don't sit around and say

Oh let me make a Neptune beat right quick. :D
