MPC Live or Elektron Digitakt ...

But then, you probably already knew that.

Digitakt is really on another level, even though Cenk was scrolling a lot with the knobs, you don't have to, its built for old Elektron users to recognize while its made for ease of use for new users. Cenk is working it old school style, but you don't have to, so many workflows in it.

There are some things in Elektron devices that are a bit of a let-down.
E.g., Digitakt: no polyphony per track, only one stereo out and that's it, no song mode…
Even Octatrack has only two stereo outs…I can't help thinking it'd be great if it had more.
Digitakt will be Overbridge-compatible so you can bounce its tracks to DAW, though.

if I never own/used an Elektron Octatrack before or taste the "blood" of MPCs, I may have voted Digitakt because it presents an immediate beginners appeals but I'm at a point where it's about completing what I've started musically. The MPC (X) is where I'm at.

Yup, and for this you need song mode.
Leaving that out is a major oversight IMHO.

I don't use song mode (mainly because I never liked it in the 2500). It felt very unintuitive and to much of a hassle. When you've had all your sequences in order and you wanted to change on in the middle to a different one it behaved very weird. Also when trying to sync with midi to daw didn't work so well (while looping).

So with the MPC Touch I did all my work inside 1 sequence and never looked back.

I don't think there's anything odd or hard about changing a sequence in the middle.

Me, I could never do with one sequence that's 3-5 minutes long…editing that here and there would be too much of a hassle for me.
That's why, when working with an MPC, I like to split the song into smaller chunks/sections – sequences – that I string together.
TBH I never write a whole song with the MPC…1–3 mins worth, then do the rest of the arranging in a DAW.

Pretty much Song Mode sucks on any sampler imo. Its just putting sequences on a list in the order you want. I prefer building on one sequence for a natural and flowing vibe of my beats. And if I use more than one sequence, I record it live onto the DAW in the order I like but most times its just 2 or 3 sequences chaining each other.

I will not be using song mode on the Live either.

Funny or not…
After the last post, I spent two good hours with Octatrack, constructing a busy loop that'll easily form the basis of a song (this is how I work most often: create a really busy loop and then thin it out into sections etc…I call it gathering all ingredients for a cake without trying to bake it).
The first though after that was, "Damn, I wish I could just bounce these to a DAW via Overbridge real quick".
And Digitakt does just that… xD

With MPC 1.9 (etc. ) and I assume 2.0, you can start a performance in Pattern Mode, and when you're done, hit "send to song mode", and it'll give you a perfect duplicate of your live performance as a song, avail. for export. I found it very useful.

Looks I'm gonna be learning a whole lot from you 1.9 guys. That sounds like dope feature. However, I prefer recording from the main-outs, putting those converters through preamps and pedals gives me my own signature tone. All my beats are live recordings though. I don't think thats gonna change

Or just press record and punch in your pads to complete song mode.

Both. They are very different to be sure and not really a fair comparison. There are a lot of things that can already be done on legacy MPCs that DT does but with DT you don't have to stop the sequencer. Mpc live will hopefully replace my 1k and ableton. I've never really been attracted to Elektron gear before but The DT has changed that. Small straight forward fun and performance oriented.
