ready to buy... advice please!

been reading these forums for a while. Thanks for all of your input. I need a bit more help before I buy an MPC from people who've used some of the different MPC's.

I'm currently a Logic user, formerly fruity loops. I've been tapping in beats to Logic through a drum machine.This year, my production has dropped off to almost nothing, largely because I've had back problems from my desk job, and the last thing I want to do when I get home is be in front of a PC again.

For this reason, I've been thinking about an MPC for a while. I've played around with the 1000 and the 4000 in shops, but it wasn't really enough to tell me which one I really want. I'm now resolved to get something, and the bugfixes for the 4k make me feel happier about buying one, but I'm still not convinced which one is right for me.

I want:

* a machine that's on a stand next to my PC.
* something with easy sample transfer between PC/MPC (does this really rule out the 2K completely?)
* to control Logic from the MPC
* sample editing on board (so that when I want to go without my PC completely, I can)
* some FX/filtering
* to take advantage of the ebook/sample packs on mpc-tutor. Does this mean I should get the new 2k with the CF reader, just so that I work with the ebook? Could I still learn stuff from it with a 1k/4k?

What do people make of my requirements? I think the 4k is for me, but I'd like some assurance from any experts out there.

If you are a MPC beginner start with a 1k or used 2xl to come to terms with working with hardware. That way you will have an easier time working with it and adjusting the thought process from software sequencing to hard ware sequencing. I started on hardware and building to software. The 4k is a full sampler. But the saying goes if you are learning to drive start small and work up no need to jump into a Ferrari with a learning curve. Good Look.

thanks, that kind of reminds me what's important. Perhaps I'll wait for the new 2000XL with the card reader. That way I can still edit samples if I want to on the 2K, but quickly transfer between PC and MPC.

Are there any plans to have sample editing on the 1K? I read a rumour a while ago.
