Was a great event! Cenk from Elektron did a dope demo with Digitakt, too…a seriously fun device!

How long was the demo? was it like a set or just a jam?

45 mins or so. 50-50.
Half a jam, half explaining what can be done.
Cenk is great at improvising, and Digitakt seems really good for that.
It's just like he explained, the reason it doesn't have a storage of some humongous gigabytes is that it's made for working with samples and creating some cool things out of them. And that's what he did.
I wish they had recorded the performance…he did some ill things with it.
E.g., there's a function that affects all tracks/sounds in it as you tweak a parameter ("affect all")…so if you want, you can mess with the envelope (or whatever parameter) of all samples playing at the same time, and that can create some really dope things (think about messing with the envelope and making all the sounds really short and snappy at the same time).

I looked that DT over and for ME lm not feeling it.
On paper its not for me and the functions.

1. No song mode? That kills it for me and l would stick with the Live/X.
2. Not enough midi i/o for my taste.
3. With the Live lm looking so forward to using the optional storage. DT don't have enough usb ports.
4. No touch screen? The days of looking at iddy biddy screens is gone! Touch screen is the future. The X is the largest drum machine touch screen.
5.everything is to small for my taste. The MPCs offer big thick pads the DT is to knobby for me.
6. Editing and filtering ect in standalone is impressive.
7. That MPC feel that sequencer etc is what l longed for. The DT wouldn't inspire me and that's very important when making music.
8. Can't sample into th DT. If lm wrong correct me and scratch this.
9. You get 8 outs on both machines and l know a CV/ Gate guy would not give up the X for this box.
10. Banks, MPCs has 8 banks up to 128. Where are the banks on the DT?
11. MPCs h has SD slot DT none?
12. Sweerwater says it has 1gig storage ram the MPCs have 2gig.
13. I don't see where this thing export and import while in standalone mode. If they have to deal the overbridge to do this definitely not for me.

To me it seems they took a step backwards. The MPCs are the future.

I will stick with the Live. :smoker:

Also, on an MPC, the "track" can have up to 128 samples, and polyphony. Then there's 128 "tracks" per sequence. So, technically speaking, you can have up to 16,384 different samples in play per sequence. Granted, the MPC would probably burst into flames, but the reality is that the Digitakt considers each "pad" a track, and you get 8 of em. So, in terms of standalone sample performance, you get a whopping 8 sounds per sequence. Even for an amateur, that's a brick wall.

As a component in a larger setup, it has its place. But the hard truth is that it's not in the same league as the new MPCs.

Dam you went all mathematical/scientifical on my arse lol haaahaahhaa lmao
You just made my head burst into flames with all those numbers lol

Each track is a pad and you only get 8? Nah the way l do my drums and how many tracks l use which would be over 8 the DT definitely would be a poor decision for me to make. Thats like some 1999 ish lol smh.
The price is good maybe to a newbie then that person would grauate to the Live/X.

I started on the Dr-5 Boss machine and the pads on that thing was a lil bigger than the bottom of an eraser. Sequencer was a horrid. But l learned how to be on time. We talking 95' smh.

Live all the way.

Does the DT have beat detection? I didn't see it mentioned like :WTF:

The MPCs does.its very necessary for sampling

I'm getting both so :smoker:

I think the Digitakt got potential and seems to pick up where Roland left off. Right now, its gonna be a bedside novel of just sketching beats on some 20watt bookshelf speakers. The Live, well you know, is getting a super stand

The DigiTakt fits in to the Elektron paradigm and if you already got a few pieces like the Analogue Rythm
etc etc then as a fanboy you gonna love that shit.

Cheers

The Digitakt is immensely strong and immune to nearly any weapon. When it's properly used, it's almost invincible. :smoker:

:WTF: lol man one finger of mines will hit two pads at a time. No joke. I can picture me doing simple drums over and over because of that.

That guy was rockin it for his genre.
