The browser they were hyping up is nothing special as far as i can tell, just let's you search and tag. I couldn't even figure out how to access my files for a few minutes lol. I just think they could've easily put this out May of last year and not f'd over Touch buyers...

Too soon to comment but I currently see a lot of areas that are basically unchanged (except for a new skin), for example no new features in DRUM and KEYGROUP programs, no new effects as standard, sample edit has no new processing options, so a little surprised this has taken so long to bring out, but I assume there's perhaps a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes.

But yeah, as I mentioned before, the media browser seems a bit weak, but don't want to sound too negative, there are lots of new things to check out and I'm sure there will be plenty of little gems to discover over the next few days.

So far no big complaints except for the fact that it took them this long to release it. No crashes (4 hours in).
Like Fanu said the UI is a little it too dark in comparison to other programs.

Going to test Audio tracks right now

MPC-Tutor wrote:Meh, was looking forward to the media browser 'tagging' system but it uses the same ridiculous method as the Expansion Browser, i.e. where you have to rename the actual samples to create groups (and now tags). So it seems to create a cymbal with a 'hip hop' genre 'tag' you must actually name the sample 'HipHop-Cymbal-whatever.wav' and this sound will now appear in the 'Genre' tag group under 'HipHop' and under the 'Instrument' tag as 'Cymbal'.

These tags appear to be pre-defined, so samples with 'Hi Hat' in the name don't get tagged as hi hats, it has to be 'HiHat'. That will be fun when you have an existing 3000 sample library you need to 'tag'.

What's wrong with the Maschine browser method? It adds the tags as hidden meta data to the end of the sample, easy peasy. The MPC method is horrendous.

That sucks, it's one of the main reasons I still use Maschine as a VST in 1.9. While not perfect it's great to dial in sounds from different expansions, plugins etc..

Can't wait to get off work in a hour and test the time stretching.

Fanu wrote:Anyone find it too dark and the font mostly too small?
When I set the brightness so that it's ok with 2.0, everything else is too bright.
I wish we could make it a bit brighter and control font size a bit.

Yes, font definitely too small/thin in places in computer GUI (e.g. the browser, sample/pad names on left side of grid in various modes), but darkness seems fine to me.

Image

Not installed it yet on my retina macbook so will report back on how that looks, as 1.9 looked poor in places on the retina screen (e.g. pixelated).

Been working good for a few hours here now.
Already reported a few things; I like how convenient it is to send bugs/suggestions…this way they're going to get a lot. This is how it should be done…easiest bug reporting I've seen yet.

As I go, I find I'm also trying to think of everything from a standalone aspect, and I realized there's one thing I can only do from software: edit automation. E.g., filter cutoff. Easy to locate and edit in software.
But where do you see and edit it in hardware? (I know this is a software topic, but I guess it's kind of related)

'Bounce to Sample' creates a 16 bit sample every time - there doesn't seem to be a way to make this 24 bit ('24 bit' sampling selected in preferences). This is a bug carried over from 1.9.

Recreation (Computer GUI):

Select 'Bounce to Sample' under 'Sequence' in Main mode
From the Project panel, right click the resulting bounced sample and select 'Save'
Saved sample is 16 bit.

Mac OS 10.11.6

I don't think you can, you couldn't in 1.9 either. I think this is another area that has seen no change/improvement. No modifier lane in hardware GUI (only velocity), no standalone list editor (i.e. step edit) - a standalone MPC with no 'step edit' isn't really an MPC IMO, I don't want to edit all event info visually, the UI just isn't accurate enough).

TBH this was the kind of thing I expected them to be working on alongside the 'headline' features like audio tracks and warping.

Yeah :-|
Honestly, with touch screen capabilities…how logical would it be to be able to draw a filter curve.
Not being able to do that is a letdown.

Step Edit would be great too. To be able to define how much to jump after entering a note, being able to jump from a note to another…ahhh. Glad I still got my MPC 60.
These new ones are great, too, but I wish old features that made MPCs what they are didn't get thrown out so easily (the omission of locate buttons still makes me wake up all sweaty at night).
