Difference: Touch Vs. Live

I have been an entirely computer based producer for over 15 years. Looking to get my first MPC. I want to know what is the difference between live and touch beside live being standalone? Does the screen on live have less delay? Does it have exclusive features? I'm pretty tied to using vst and vsti's. so 99.9% of the time I will be tethered to a computer? The gadget junkie in me always wants the new new and live seems so tempting but paying double for a machine that accomplishes my needs the same as half the price seems asinine!

Allegedly the Live has less delay than the Touch, but that's probably due to it not having to be run in screen mirror mode. However as soon as you use the Live as a controller with all your VSTs it will (I assume) be running in screen mirror mode and hence you might get the same experience. Or maybe they made other improvements to the screen - basically we cannot give you a definitive answer at this stage as no one has independently tested it yet.

I would say that the Touch's UI experience is still pretty good, it's mostly in sample edit where the lag is noticeable, and I'm not sure how much of that is due to MPC Software 1.9 though. Perhaps they've tweaked this.

Yeh, only owners of the Live who have previously used a Touch will be able to advise you on the improvements, and there aren't many of them about right now....

However if you have no need for standalone and are 99.9% VST then it does suggest you are probably better off with a Touch...

Unless you aren't short of a bob or two in which case you can just go for the newer and better model...

Thanks. I figured not many ppl have it in hand. Just trying to get the gear junkie in me under control. Eyeing the X.... I need to stop!

On the Touch, the screen is in a grooved dent but on the Live the screen is flat with the surface of the panel. And Live being an inch thicker. There is no lag of the screen standalone but may when connected to a PC in controller mode, that part is still yet to be seen.

I am hoping that they will have the same experience while using a computer when 2.0 drops.

Live will just allow you to leave the computer and keep work on some things.

I love my MPC touch --will not replace for MPC Live.
Instead i will replace my MPC2500 with MPCX.

I sold both to fund the 'X'.. I don't regret it a single bit. But honestly What's the use of keeping the 'Touch' around if your getting the 'X'?

The X is too big for my computer desk so the X will be used standalone only. The Touch will be just a fancy DAW controller for MPC2.0.
No point in buying Live if you own Touch:) My advise is unless you are gigging don't buy Live get a Touch at a fraction of the price of the Live. I can see retailers closing these out at $399 soon. Bargain because MPC2.0 is included

Thats true.. Only benefit would be the touch screen responsivenes & being mobile.

well being that the live is actually in some of you guys hands now was it worth the switch from the touch besides the portable factor.

No.. but for me, the portable factor is enormous. It's everything.

The pick up and go factor is huge for the Live. When HDD streaming gets implemented it would increase it's worth even more.

Though If I known the Live was missing features from the desktop software I would have stayed with my Touch/Maschine setup.

I bought a Touch and sold my Ren. in some ways and not others it feels like a downgrade although in some ways the work flow has gotten quickerand after 3 weeks use i know that the X is what i need to get my hands on one day. using the touch to try and get familiar with the touch interface being thats where it seems the software is headed

MPC Touch = poor mans MPC Live (Touch will give you the exact same tethered to computer MPC2.X experience and the sampling A/D sounds great and D/A sounds great)
I running the outputs of MPC Touch into my Roland MX1 mixer sound card. I use a Mac mini and Mac 27" monitor. I'm really happy with this set up on my small desk.
Im using the chop feature of MPC 2.X extensively. I then load the chopped samples into a Pioneer Toraiz SP-16 for further jamming and analog filter warmth. Perfect setup.
I preordered an MPC-X but don't really need it with my MPC-Touch and Pioneer Toraiz SP-16 combo.
