A letter of improvements to Akai

1- Crossfade / X-Fade Loop.
2- Realtime Time Stretch in drum programs. Also give us real time time stretch in sample edit.
3-In sample edit mode (Studio, Live, Touch) users need the option to have horizontal q-link selections; like Qlink (Pad Scene) mode and q link pad parameter mode.
This way we can have start and end points in the same physical column on the hardware.
4-Browser System for standalone. Sound tag instead of just folder browsing in STANDALONE.

If you're unhappy about something, the worst you can do is complain about it.
The best you can do is send them a list of desired improvements when they specifically ask you for it.

I agree, but i also think maybe a very short list of important improvements would be more beneficial than a long list of desirable features.....which is what this has turned into...

I agree, a huge epic feature request list is more likely to be ignored, it would be best to keep it short and sweet with just the most important few requests, although I appreciate that everyone has a different idea of what's important.

If they had chosen competent beta testers they wouldn´t need such a list...

No, but it doesn't take much effort to post the shortcomings.

I don't think you guys realise the amount of work involved in beta testing - it's not just a case of stumbling across a bug and moaning that 'it don't work, fix it' - you have to properly investigate it, work out exact step-by-step recreations, test in multiple platforms, test in older versions to see if its new or previously existing, continually monitor it and re-test on each beta update, keep monitoring it after it's fixed to ensure nothing breaks it in future versions etc. Most beta testers from the forum gave up after a few weeks, they couldn't be bothered with all the work involved.

Plus beta testers don't choose what bugs get fixed or what features are implemented - that all gets decided by Akai. I wouldn't be so quick to badmouth the beta testers until you've experienced the process yourself for a few hundred hours.

Can't say Akai ignores us, we came this far since Ren 1.0, so we have to be some what optimistic. 2.0 is public beta for us to pinpoint the bugs and incomplete features. If they had JJ as head software developer, the Lives would have shipped with 4.0 by now.

My IMMEDIATE Top 5 Features Request:

1. Real Time Time Stretch(warping) in drum programs. Real Time Time Stretch is extremely limited in standalone mode. I need to be able to warp/time stretch everything in standalone mode.

2. Revamped search browser!! I want to be able to type in a key word like 'Kicks' & all my kick samples come up without having to rename/re-tag my entire sample library!!!

3. Streaming from an internal HD/SSD. It's 2017, this feature shouldn't even need to be requested!!

4. Ability to have 16 MONO audio tracks in standalone mode.

5.Automation editing in standalone mode.

These are features that should have been included from day 1 of 'soft launch'!!! Akai advertised that the standalone OS is the same as when the Live & X are connected to a computer. That is NOT the case!!!

I will also make a list of LOOOONG OVERDUE features much needed in the MPC software like side chaining, etc.

Beta testing is NOT easy! Although I have not beta tested for Akai, I do participate in Public Beta testing for other companies like Serato. I don't get paid. I do it because I use the product and I need it to perform flawlessly. It's also nice to be able to suggest features that may be implemented into the software.

Also, being a "good beta tester" means you gotta be willing to go thru the hassle or reporting things. It actually takes some time and work.
Me, I've reported a ton to Ableton, and it does take some time and effort, as you gotta be as detailed as you can.
That's far from fun when you start to do a lot of that.

I'm sure in many public beta testing groups there's guys who test for their own enjoyment but can't go thru the trouble of reporting things in detail.
I admit, sometimes when I come across a bug in the middle of work (a crash, for example), I just curse it, reboot, and go on with work…you almost have to be in the right mindstate to go thru everything that reporting it takes.
I love Ableton Live, as it'll always provide you with a crash set very effortlessly, which makes that easier.
