True enough it were mostly jokes around here.. And the guy on reddit sounded bloody serious. But if I recall this guy was also a member of this forum. (Hope he's enjoying the Beta )

that dude should do the decent thing and apologies to Dan; cos he had Dan in shook up in witness protection for a number of months.

Dan had to skip NAMM due to the threats on his person.

With the Renaissance, Akai wanted an MPC that runs on your computer and call it a day, but WE got on them and pushed it to where it is today. Without us, Akai would be a memory. They can't handle the pressure we squeezing.

I wish this would have went with the letter or list to Akai. "KEEP CUSTOMERS INFORMED ", Pete Goodliffe said a week and a half ago on twitter " MPC news : coming next week on software and hardware availability " Akai announced MPC 2.0 beta for touch and Live users, no word on official MPC Live or X release? Nothing????? No tutorial on the 2.0 software etc on and on. I love the MPC workflow, but the company is another thing. I preordered the X 4 months ago?????

kinda surprised no Akai presence on the AKAI Forum. Huh?... Been awaiting some new MPCX videos, along with software videos of linear audio recording, like a usual DAW.

I've also been thinking, I wonder if Roland might follow up and release a SP16. A 16 track multi sampler looper with real time track recorder. Basically a stand alone digital multi tracker with sampling abilities. I'd LOVE to see it. I still enjoy my 404.

Ordered mine 'X' 3 months ago, after saying Q1, March/April, April/May, I believe it's May/June now. They need to come with an official statement.

Is it going to take one more month? 2 months? The fact is that people are willing to spend their hard earned money one a product they haven't even played with. Show some respect to these customers by filling them in with the progress/problems. No one is going to bash you for that, in fact it just builds up the trust factor to a higher level.

But the fact remains.. no official word from Akai..

Don't leave out the potential effect the JJOS had. That OS development extended the life cycle of the 2500 and 1000 in my opinion. The controller versions were tethered and bound, and inevitably useless without a computer. Soulless and disposable and lacking real value. Yes they essentially do the same things but.... The old machines were timeless workhorses... JJOS truly unleashed the potential in the final standalone machines. Despite their limitations by modern standards they still hold real value. A lot of dedicated users I know felt and still feel that way.

At present I'm geeked about the possibilities and await my unit. I wish they had offered a standalone version like the studio. I would prefer no touch screen and more knobs and sliders but whatever.

So I'm way off topic and things should stay focused so to bring it back on point....

Question: Is it true that you can't record MIDI data in to a MIDI track while in standalone mode? I read that in this thread and it seemed so absurd I need clarification.

Apologies for quickly joining you off topic, but i agree 100%

I understand both of you, JJ did his best but there was no remedy for the bad sound quality. Thats why mine hase been eating dust for all these years untill I sold it to fund the 'X'. The workflow had a lot of potential but the sound quality killed it for me. Not only that but also the build quality. After all the years that I left the 2500 untouched it's verry strange that the tact switches were degraded. I had to open it up and spray the damn thing with electrical cleaner or else I could not sell it.

Semi offtopic, but as it's in the same league…I saw there's an MPC 5000 for 300 EUR in the local pawn shop :-0

These new "MPCs" will be the same. So be sure to have DeoxIT ready when your pile of junk...erm...I mean the iconic X arrives!
