1.7 lookin good

Id have to say ive given 1.7 a good work out and have had only 1 little hiccup where the usb connection dropped out, mind you ive trasfered my whole hard drive to pc. So far i say hats of to whoever did this upgrade, My mpc is now the way hardware should be....Rock Solid!

the usb/Aksys link is still a mess. Crashes and freezes after transferring files etc. Its better than before but hardly rock solid.

I'm not the only person have difficulties - the Aksys connection is still buggy.

Just a normal poorly tested Akai update I'd say

hey fasterbeats, how long did that take and how many gb were transfered?

maybe we have to concider the possibilty of the usb connection being fawlty and not the OS.

i just copied three sample cd at once ( 5GB worth of samples). I had no problems. I transferred a long drum recording (+- 25 minutes), again without an USB drop-out...

Bout 5 gig took at least 1 hour

Im still running usb 1 on my pc. If mabee that makes a difference

What OS are you running on your computer?
And did you install the lasted version of the akai USB driver for the mpc4k?

where can this upgrade be found?
is there documentation for it?
what is better / new?
I was going to install from a memory stick in the usb - can this be done and is it a good idea?
will the upgrade mess up any settings I have already?

Ak-Sys is still a load of balls, with the connection dropping and freezing.

My suspicion is that certain USB host controllers (on the motherboard) give it grief, and Akai never test with a proper range of these chip sets.

Well I for one think its a kick azz uppgrade!!!

the biggest issue for me was a bug that erased your pattern midi when trying to delete/replace data.. it was a very actif bug on my system..

it was getting so bad that I had to play each pattern though each time I did a edit to be to see if I needed to undo,
some tracks I just could not edit no matter how I tried to fool the MPC with workarounds ... it was utter pain ..

last session I only encounderd that bug twice instead of all the time, and there was a a senario I could call up that would always lock up the MPC in 1.6 which does not happen in 1.7

I'm working at a much higher speed now, doing midi edits with confidance

and haveing an instant timing correct is just superb ,so intercatif its cries out: use me.. not to mention the flawless multi changes (that's incredible imo..

no problems with usb eather..

it may not be perfect but its so so so much better than 1.6..

I did notice one thing tough: I was not able to activate q-FX on record input last night .. anyone else

i m happy with the aksys improvements - i been backing up the entire shit on my 4k harddisc about 2-3 month back on 1.60 .... it was about 20 giga to backup and no joke on average i transferedd about 200-300 mbytes on each transfer - then it crashed somewhere ... sometimes even much earlier but i surely never went over 300 mbytes at a time .... the entire backup thing took 3 entire days!!!

with the new os i been backing up twice now ... once 1,5 giga at one time, and once about 500 mbytes .... both time no crash and no problem ... imo thats much better as before and ok for me ... (i m backin up on a pc, runnin xp - usb 2 ... )

When 1.7 will be available from download in the international site???? I can't read japanese and it might sounds silly but i can't take the risk...

It's not out yet. I don't read Japanese either, but the OS is not Japanese or English.

I decided to go ahead and go for it and loaded it up last night, and used the rough tranlation
of the Readme (Altavista) and seems to be working fine.

I really am thankful for the Multi change speed being addressed. I did some testing last night,
switching sequences that had Multi program changes and they worked without any problem,
even with FX going all over the place

I made a song out of 2 completely sequences, converted to 1 sequence and the Multi's changed
on the fly.

I had 2 bars of 808 with Delay and Flange, which then switched to 2 bars of 909 (new Multi) with Reverb and Auto Wah.

Sounded great.
