What Size SSD for MPC Live?

i bought a 1tb hd for mine. it was easy to install and get up and running. the 2nd time i booted it up, it couldn't find the HD. i heard it spin up but it never found it. so it forced me to restart to connect the drive. i'm hoping it's a software bug. i've booted and rebooted probably 8-10 times since then without the issue. i worry that it will disconnect before i get a chance to save. so i'm keeping my 128gb usb drive near by.

better off getting a solid state drive.

you didn't mention how you formatted it. that may be your issue.

i've ran hd's in laptops and other gear for ages without issue. i'm not concerned. i formatted it as exfat before connecting it. i've yet to see the issue pop up again. so that's good.

Yeah ive ran HDs for decades as well with no issues. Its just an SSD/solid state age now and HDs are less efficient and slower than SSDs. Not to mention the cost of more battery consumption.

Remember if you are having problems don't forget to use the 'Report Bug' option in the computer GUI, listing your system specs and step by step recreation of the problem where possible

It better not be a method of having to install 2.0 on your computer with ilok just to get your standalone to update or format a drive. If thats the case, I'll skip the "standalone" X or Live indefinitely.

Please don't put anything in your Live but an SSD. It's not a question of will your hhd crash but when will your hhd crash?!

Yeah solid state is the way man. Just think of it as a huge SD card.

SSD are not as expensive anymore. you don't need a 1TB drive or even a half terabyte. no one needs to try to see who has the bigger peen, just get a 256gb and be done... samples dont take up much space.

Yes, I'm getting this same error, and very regularly. I installed a WD 500GB SSD (today), and I initialized/formatted the drive from my MacBookPro (ExFat; GUID Partition Map). I've gotten this error all 4 or 5 times I've used/rebooted the MPC Live this evening. Don't have time to experiment tonight, but I'd love to hear from others to find out of reseating the drive or doing anything else helps.

After a decent run, it's begun to happen to me now, too. AND I've noticed that my screen and pads are warmer than they were before. Mind you, this is within 30 minutes of turning it on!

It's rather worrisome.

I'll play with it some more tomorrow and see if it happens again, plus check in with customer support. Sigh ...

Truth. These dudes spending a shit load of cash on storage they'll never use are funny. They wouldn't even fill up 120gb in 5 years. Wasted money if you ask me

If you ever intend to use your MPC for DJing, 500GB is not really overkill IMO. Buut YMMV as always..
