house beats, your help please

2nd track?!?!?!? i cant remember having put a second one up there....ill have to go look and see what song your talking about....

the old track i think was originally sequenced on an mc505 but i then got an mpc and resequenced on there as it was much tighter....so yeah all one shot hits for the beats, i programed the tinlkly percussive rhythm on a korg electribe, bass i think was from an s2000, pads from a korg ms2000, tinkly vibe sound from and a-station , ditto the guitary type of sound...and the vocals are richie hawtin who's estate couldn't grant the use of the sample so nothing ever happened with the tune....as i say though that tune is very very old and not really representative of what im doing now...but thanks for listening

i remember the other tune now....first showed it here months ago hawking for vocals but had no joy- then again its not really a vocalists forum so no surprise....

yo dub they were great songs but i got to give it to the first one it's really gruving and movin, i would play that in my setts, the second one is great to but it got that sound ever one has , dont get me wrong , there both great tracks ,

it's a great hiphop iste but on the house tip ,i think all the house heads hde out ,cause you get more tip for producing hiphop than you do for house, but thats OK cause i do it all plus it's more satisfying when i come up with something i'm trying to figure out,

cheers dude, the second was never ever finished i got to the stage where i needed that something (i thought a vocal line) to bring to the next level- then i could embellish around it- but there must be a space of at least two years between those tunes so that is a bit worrying! and if i had it on vinyl id send you one free but i never got it pressed due to the refusal by the havens estate to clear the sample...

and thats the same of all forums ive been on...a long running joke on another forum was how everyone was doing trance, all noobs were asking about bt's kit and peeps would get a slagging for mentioning house or breaks or whatever but its never been a problem and ive managed to convert a few cats along the way looking for a maturer sound

Just to keep you updated. My beats are sounding a hell of a lot better now and I'm getting to grips with the swing and hi-hat patterns. I am really pleased as I am making my own beats 100% and thats a good feeling thanks for all your help.

Dub I sure will, I was really messing with the swing last night and got some nice beats going, the more I practice/experiment the better it gets, thanks again and will let you know when I have something on line to listen to.

yo featherboy those tracks are silky man, i'm diggin them if you dont mind me asking what swing setting did you use on that first track it's got that detroit feel to it and i've been trying to get that down ,real nice tracks, dude you got talent,

dub yeah i would like to hear some of your newest creations too you sent me one a year or two that i studied the swing on it but could not figure out , but i just like to hear new artist stuff it really inspires me to create be cause as you say you need something to get you to the next level,

one thing i notice, is that you guys use synth; right! i tend to use samples in my music, so it doesnt sound right to me at least when your making house tracks that are soulfull, what are you useing for a synth module.

ill download em and give them a listen, may take a while as i work at a school and they might block the mp3...ill let you know what i think...

well im currently working on a cheesy hands in there air vocal house tune (with no vocals) and some breakbeat stuff- if i finish them ill upload them to my soundclick and let you know.....

i use synths and samples.....that richie haven vocal wasnt programmed on any synth

depends what i want to do but i often have more control over my synths so use them for melody, all drums are always sampled plus anything else i care to thrown in- one shot sounds, maybe a segment of a salsoul tune and i resample my own stuff repitch to fit or get my guitar out and sample me doing some little riffs...whatever really- but you need synths i feel to help work with the samples....rarely do i hear completley sample based house (unless its akufen or glitch-house) i use a novation a-station as my main va- very programmable capable of lovely bass, pads, leads and noises....

alpha juno1- digitall controlled analogue- for those warm pads, thick basses, funky resonant leads and of course those thick pwm'd sounds....

emu vintage keys plus- the don of house modules- plentyof pianos, keys, organs, classic lead sounds, mellotrons- this is the bomb and is always used for chord sequences etc...

I guess you mean the untitled track that is the October posting. Yes, I was trying to get that bouncy early Kevin Saunderson sound like on his Inner City stuff. I did that back in 2000 so I don't remember the exact settings. I think it was partly a combination of getting the right 909 tunings on a Novation DrumStation, so those sounds had a fairly soft attack & combining those with the hard edged 707, 727 percussion which always sounds slightly swung even when it isn't. I'd have kept every drum sound on a seperate MPC track so I could experiment with swing settings. I expect these were around the 55% to 60% range.

the classic detroit shuffle can be found on the roland x0x machines...i had a 626 and belief it was shuffle pattern 4....cool stuff...

that sht is Ill, thats what i'm hearing in the new eletro tracks; with some Ill 303 baselines and some synth and some samples; you got some Ill tracks.

where on the net can i find those setting for those drum machines, i dont have those drum mac. but i got an Alesis hr 16b that i'm going to check out the swing on it and see how it sounds,

perhaps us four should do a beat collab or something- you know- some provides drum sounds, another a sample, another some bass/synth, original vocal hook perhaps- doesn't have to be serious but could be fun...then we could release all four versions as one monster dub
