Cubase: wack or wicked?

Hey, just wondering what opinions people have on cubase. Think it's no good for pro releases? Is it looked down upon to use cubase to spice up your Akai sequences after you have tracked em into it? Meaning fx n stuff?

I mean the actual song tracks..tracked out

Cubase works fine for me.

Good enough for pro release? Why wouldn't it be? I prefer Logic myself, but it doesn't matter one bit if you use Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Performer or whatever. As multitrackers, they all get the job done. The interface is a matter of personal preference.

As for 'spicing up' your MPC's tracked beats with FX - a lot of software FX are really good these days. You can get good delays, chorus and other modulation fx from plugins. With reverb it gets a little more critical - Logic's Space Designer is very good, as are the reverbs for the Powercore and UAD-1 cards. I don't know about the reverb bundled with Cubase though. I haven't used Cubase since SX 1.0 came out so I don't know what's bundled with it now. As for compression, I prefer to stick to hardware for anything but the most basic level control - but I know people who swear by the UAD-1's 1176 emulation for kick and snare compression, or even digitalfishphones free blockfish compressor.

I'm a Logic user too, but Cubase is just as good. I think with all these systems lo-fi lists, they keep such a close check on their rival's products to see they aren't getting left behind.

99.999% of people who listen to a record don't care how it was made.

99.999% who make music are always looking for ways to improve their sound.

You really don't need to worry about the 3 people who think a record is no good because it uses a digital compressor on the snare, not an analog valve one...........(lo-fi. I just read the end of your post again. Don't think I'm counting you amongst those 3 people ...... )

Some people get snobby about what they use, particularly Pro Tools users, but they are just tools, like was said above, they all can get the job done.

Many professionals use cubase, logic, nuendo, etc.
