How to save _just_ a new sample?

Hi there,

just received my MPC Live two days ago, so still exploring.. Also completely new to MPC workflow, used to work with Cubase until now.

I already kinda unterstand how to create a new program etc and how to save a project. But, how can I achieve this:

I just want to sample a couple of records etc, and then save only these samples as a .wav file, NOT as a project. Hence, go and create my own library of samples for using them somewhen in future.

Currently I am a bit lost in the menu; I can somehow mixdown the whole thing etc, but isn't there a simple 'save as a sample' option somewhere?

Maybe it's just to simple to understand it, but...

Any support highly appreciated!!

Soon as you assign samples to the pads, they save onto the program. Best to name your files for easy Browsing in the My Files section. Don't forget to save or enable auto-save you hoarder slave.

thanks for your reply. Hmm not too sure about that to be honest. So yeah, I can record, then applying names for the samples. And within the project, I can find these within the browser, ok. But a) within My Files I just find the whole project that I've saved, not any single .wav file. And b), isn't there a way to just record a sample from scratch, then save it as a .wav file without including the same within a project? My mate here (user of an MPC 1000) also thinks there 'should' be an option to 'export sample' or some like that...

So, as an example, target would be: record a vinyl record. Save several sections (kicks, snares, breaks, whatever noises...) as separate sample files (wav) onto the installed ssd. Shutdown the MPC, use these samples within one of my next projects. And until then, don't create / save any projects at all, just fill my own library with own samples. I know this should work without the need for a computer (obviously then it's easy to create wav files there and load them, but this thing is standalone, is it?).

Most likely it's just too easy and we just don't get it....

Any hints hiiiighly appreciated!

I think maybe you have to upload those samples from the external storage (like SSD or SD card) into the internal memory, I don't think it will load directly from your SSD, but someone might explain clearer if thats the case. Yellow cat Dan too scared to post here, so we gotta help ourselves.

In the computer interface you just head over to the PROJECT panel, right click any sample in the list and select 'save'. I don't think there's an equivalent in the hardware; to save an individual sample you have to assign it to a pad in a program and in MAIN select the pencil icon at the end of the program row and select 'save current sample' (that's from vague memory, I might be wrong....) - convoluted.

They should have a 'save current sample' option in SAMPLE EDIT, e.g a disk icon at the top of the page.

Now THAT's it, thank you sooo much!! Save current sample via that pencil icon does the trick, finally! Why ever never opened that menu, well... Yeah, exactly - would have expected an option / a dialogue somewhere in sample editor for example, or at least somewhere in the save dialogue in that top menu (that 'opened folder' icon in MAIN). You even get 'All Samples' entry on the left there, but if you proceed to 'Save as...', the only thing you'll get is some strange mixdown feature. Alright, so definitely helped, thanks again! And yeah, please Akai, add a simple 'export sample' feature in that sample editor or within the sampler, shouldn't be THAT difficult for a MPC of today, don't ya think?

Phew! Thanks for this topic. My new Live's ordered, but now got the sweats as a Windows 7 user (just want the Live as a standalone): Please correct me if I misunderstand: that I wouldn't be able to just save a WAV sample without wrapping it up in all that project (whatever) stuff? thanks

Yeah, that exactly was my question (how to do that) and it works just as descibed above. So you basically will record new samples within a new project, but don't have to save that project in the end, just save the sample via the dialogue hidden behind the pencil icon. Once you know that, you'll figure it out.

That being said, I am on Win7 also and installed the MPC software onto my laptop to get the manual (as it's hidden there in the menu) - seems to run on W7 as well. Ok, never really worked with it, but fires right up, MPC drivers are loaded successfully etc.

update of the above: Came back from said park to find a DPD courier with an Akai box, about to buzz the intercom. Ten days early but who's complaining. Charged batt connected speakers, tried a few knobs. Pads feel great, well pleased. Pardon the use of your topic.
