What Size SSD for MPC Live?

so if live does not stream samples from disk is it worth getting an ssd hd?

I've pulled my Crucial SSD out. I'm using a Sandisk Cruzer micro USB stick for now and it works great. Was thinking about possibly dropping a Sandisk or a Samsung SSD in there; what's the consensus on those?

Had mine for nearly a month now. Dropped a Samsung 850 250gb in it a week into using it. I only use it on battery to make beats until I'm at 10%- 20% then plug it in to power. Trying to conserve the cycles of the battery. Anyway, I use it with a DSI Pro 2 and a DSI Prophet 12.

The first week or so I only noticed it got a little laptop hot on the bottom. Identical to my MacPro. I'm not jumping to conclusions. But I feel it's the hard drive. After about 2 weeks with the Samsung in the unit. The left side of the screen over till the pads started, was a little warm. To warm for my liking to always be in the unit... Now it wash't the bottom of unit laptop battery hot. It was just warm. Where the right side was the usual I was accustom to in the beginning. I've taken the Samsung out. Went out and bought a 128gb sd card, stuffed it in the back. Used it now the last 3 days, about 4 hours constant run on battery before plugging it in, the unit is cool like the breeze.

My advice is to grab an SD card and stick it in the back, stay on the cool side. $50 - 128gb is plenty of storage for me anyway.

I've been using a Drevo 120gb SSD for 5 days now and the MPC Live doesn't get any hotter than it did prior to the ssd installation. The only problem I had was that my PC refused to recognize the ssd before formatting but luckily I was able to format it on my macbook with no issues. Now my PC recognizes the ssd.

Grab a sandisk and save yourself some money. It works great and has no problems. You won't regret it

SanDisk always my goto for memory. However, I got a Lexmark 16GB SD card in there causing no problems what so ever.

If Akai was gonna build these like a laptop, they should've put a fan in there. I mean, there are vents, so a heat issue existed during testings.

Been doing just fine with my Sandisk USB stick. Just ordered a Sandisk SSD to stick in there to see how it goes. I'll let you know!

Do we know the max read/write speed of the live?

Or maybe do people notice the difference between the internal memory sample loading speed vs SSD sample loading speed?

Pretty sure I also read this somewhere here but couldn't find it again. Definitely a bummer for workflow, this should be changed with the next update.

You mean the 16GB drive? That you can't access, and I don't see that changing because they don't want us to mess with the OS which is understandable.

Thanks for your reply - no, I mean accessing the SSD (in my case, the Samsung SSD). I don't see that device in Windows, but I can access the SD cardreader for example..

Oh, right. You can only access the drive while you are in controller mode, unfortunately it can't be accessed while in standalone.

If you are in controller mode and you still can't access it them i'm guessing it's a compatibility/format issue, not sure which though.

Hmmm ok, thanks... I'm pretty sure I had the same issue in controller mode also, so hmmmm :-/ Is there a common good way to format the SSD? I attached it to the laptop before installing and just used standard settings and NTFS. Seemed to be fine as it is working fine for the MPC - just no access from laptop.

You can, but don't open the mpc software. When the looking for pc screen is on the Live you can access the drive.

While waiting for my Live to arrive i grabbed this little fellow for that SATA SSD i've got so i can do my thang using my Mac:
