Yeah so I received a track that needed some elements to be added so i recorded it into the LIVE.

7 minute song (House track) at 120 BPM is roughly ~210 ish beats.

So I made a sequence that was 240 beats in length ( I even did 400 beats in one other test).

Recorded through the line in at 44.1
exactly at the 5 minute mark the LIVE will stop recording, but the REC and PLAY buttons are still lit and nothing tells you on the screen or anywhere that its no longer recording.

no other tracks recorded. no timestretch. plenty of memory. low RAM usage. 2% CPU.

i can load the song in as an .mp3 (that's how I received it) , assign it to the pad, hit the pad and as long as i dont stop it it will play in its entirety (7 minutes).

if i make another take and re-attempt, it still stops at 5 minutes down to the tick.

there is no limitations in the manual as to how long you can records an audio track, but you can record a sample for 20 minutes.

could be a forced limitation by akai, but i find it strange this is not mentioned in the manual. all the manual says is the sequence needs to be as long as the part being recorded , which, in this case, it is.

standalone mode only. never used the software.

made it aware but wanted to make sure i was not losing my mind. even the rep was a bit perplexed, especially since you can sample for 20 minutes.. :)

It's most likely a RAM scenario. Considering that there's no streaming from the hard disks, the MPC must load all audio into its RAM. 5 min. X 8 tracks = 40 min. of audio in the RAM, plus the sum of all the programs you load? I mean, they have to throw up a limit somewhere. The RAM meter is probably lying to us.

Just because an Akai phone rep is confused, doesn't mean the answer isn't fairly simple.

thank you for being interested in this to offer a response.

akai rep stated the 5 minute thing was designed that way. he confirmed this with engineers.

he also mentioned once they implement disk streaming that time will be lifted.

had nothing to do with ram. audio recording does not use hardly any CPU since its a flash based storage medium and the machine has a fast enough processor to record.

to directly respond to you, it was not an akai phone rep. this cat actually has hands on the machines and is much higher up in the food chain.

again I had no problem playing an audio file that was 7 minutes long. and the sampler can record 20 minutes of audio in one time continuous. this is why i questioned if this was a bug or by design.

Although the notion of disk streaming implimentation being the thing that lifts this restriction seems to support my claim.

Any update on the disk streaming issue on the MPC X / Live ??

I really wanted to buy a Live unit, but if i'm unable to record for longer than 5mins.. it kind of defeats my purpose for it.

Standalone audio track recording editing/sequencing AND mixing is awesome .

But i want to record whole songs here. And i mean instrumental tracks.. improvs.. rock riffs.. world music stuff.. not just 8 or 16 bar loops.. which the MPCs seem to do ver very well.

AKAI.. there's a market for standalone multitrack recording & editing & performing .. outside the hiphop and sampling community .

Fix this , pls .

I resent that. As someone who multitracks soley within samplers, Hip Hop and the sampling community has evolved since the '90s. We were already producing within MPCs while you were raving about software and welding the power of a computer.

Last update was from Dan a few months ago. It’s actively being worked on, but it’s nowhere close to being released.

Disc streaming was whispered before the Live even dropped and it still isn’t here. So who know how long you will be waiting.

its an MPC, not a harddisk recorder....get one of those then, or an Octatrack or use the looper...

Have you tried to record your track via the sampler ?

I've tried to bounce record mine through the audio track but the recording was stopping after 2 minutes or so.
Had to go to the sampling page in order to record a 4'45sec track didn't try to break the 5min barrier though.

Hello. This is my first post but I have this problem Sussex.
You need to go into preferences, hardware section and select screen dimming to never. I noticed when the screen dims the record arm goes off. Just tested this and was able to record however long I wanted.

The 5000 has hard disk recording- 8 tracks streaming back-independent of RAM usage.
