Im trying to slave my MPC which is sequencing a bunch of sound modules. All i want to be able to do is press play in pro tools and it start my moc, i have everything hooked up right but it doesnt work. I want to do it while the MPC is in song mode but it doesnt work, it just goes to the end of song and nothing plays. Also when i do it while im on the main screen, pro tools doesnt start till about after 2 bars.

1. Take a MIDI cable. Hook from ProTools' MIDI OUT to the MPC's MIDI IN #1.

2. In ProTools, look up top to the "MIDI" pull-down menu. Pull it down, and select "MIDI Beat Clock."

3. Put a check in the box "Enable MIDI Beat Clock."
Put another check in the box for your MIDI interface (in my case, it's "DIGI 001") Then click "OK."

4. On the MPC, hit SHIFT+9.......this is the MIDI/Sync menu.
On the left side of the MPC screen you will see "Sync In."
Where it says "In:" change the setting to "1"
Where it says "Mode:" change the setting to "MIDI Clock."
Where it says "Recieve MMC:" change the setting to "ON."

5. Now you're ready to go. Put the MPC in song mode, and press PLAY in ProTools. It should start the MPC now. (Make sure you have the MPC's audio outs connected to a track(s) in ProTools....and make sure the track(s) is record enabled so you can hear the MPC.

6. A good thing to know is....when the MPC is in song mode, if you start ProTools playing at Bar #4, the MPC will also start on the 4th bar of your sequence.
If you start ProTools at bar #10, the MPC will start on the 10th bar of your sequence.....etc. and so on.

I hope I didn't forget anything. That should work out for you. Good luck.

Cool, glad I could help you. I had this problem a long time ago, and I think someone in here or the Digidesign forum helped me out. I guess that's what this forum is all about. (or it could be all about that, if people weren't so busy talking smack)
