Hi,

Been playing around with the mpc Live I got recently and loving it! So, when I got it, I noticed there were no samples on the internal hard drive, retailer said just download them (10gig on a shitty internet connection, great)...so I did and been running them fine off an external drive since.

But, I've been saving a few projects to the internal hard drive recently and after switching it on today...I find that there's 0 projects on the internal hard drive...nothing. I found that restarting the unit will wipe the internal hard drive of any projects/samples.

Has anyone had this issue where anything saved to the internal hard drive just disappears once the unit has been restarted? I can save a project, create a new one and then re-open the one I just saved, but once it's restarted, it's like it's been through a factory reset.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

the live does not have an internal drive. its flash storage. just for clarity.

its ROM so you cant delete those sounds (yet).

theres 10gb of factory sounds, clips, demos. if your machine arrived with zero sounds in it, its defective.

if you are sure you are "saving" to the internal storage and its not there when you boot up, you have a defective unit.

maybe it was used? or just a lemon off the line...

Agreed - faulty drive/unit.

I installed a Samsung 500gb SSD to the bay of my MPC Live and it works flawlessly. I used the Disk Utility on OSX to format it to EXFAT and it's working perfectly for read/write.

I'm definitely saving to the flash storage and it's losing everything after a restart. Does explain why there was 0 sounds on it when it arrived, I should of questioned that more when speaking to the retailer.

Will be returning it on Monday, very annoying.

Thanks for the replies!

Has anyone successfully RMA'd their MPC Live yet for this issue? If so, how long did it take?

I put in a support request on their site last week and haven't heard back. I didn't even receive a confirmation email or ticket number. Not sure if they don't send confirmations or if mine is just messed up. So opened another case and still no email.

2Verasect - well, i've received this after 6 days of waiting
"The Vault2 should certainly come pre-loaded on the unit when running in standalone mode. To access these files from the "Main" screen, press: Menu > Browser > My Files > 3 (third folder in top right hand corner of screen) > Expansions > The Vault 2.

Please advise as to whether or not you see this content, if you don’t please send through a picture of what is appearing in this screen. "

and so i made a video, and sent to them. four days passed, nothing yet.

and also at akaipro forum one dude said to email him, so i did. and he answered 3 days later:
"Thank you for getting in touch with me! As you are located outside of the US, I have forwarded your information from a support inquiry to the UK technical support team. A member of that team will contact you and help you coordinate service."

so yeaaaah :/ i guess, i'll try to exchange it at the shop.. it's just that i've read on elektron forum, that one guy's unit got crashed, he reboot it, and it got empty. and now he got the same problem as we do.
i wonder how widespread this bug is.

oh, they've just recommended to return the unit for warranty inspection.
so yeah, i guess exchange is the only way for now.

If you are in the EU your contract of sale is with the retailer, not Akai, so remember the retailer is obliged to sort this out for you. As it's only just been purchased it's a no brainer - you get a full refund or a direct exchange, neither you nor the retailer should have to contact Akai for approval, the retailer should just accept the item as faulty and refund you. Obviously if Akai are already in the process of exchanging it then so be it, sometimes it's easier to go direct to the manufacturer.
