Battery charger

I have a question about the battery, I hope someone can help...
I was thinking will the battery be damaged if I use it on power charger constantly on the studio? Is it better to take the cord of if the battery is full? Grts jay

I wouldnt know the scientific answer but I would assume that it might over time. I try to charge battery stuff as little as possible, laptops, tools phones etc. SO far with the live I let it get low and charge it over night and it's good to go for a few days unless I use it for extended periods more than just an hour or two.
I keep it mostly in the same spot but only connect the charger when it needs it. Its not annoying plugging it in or unplugging it.

I only know the basics of keeping the battery healthy over time.

1-Before charging the unit, always plug the cable in the outlet first, then connect to the MPC Live.

2-For new units, allow the battery to die down to 9 to 7% before charging. Do this the first couple month, it actually strengthens the battery giving it a longer life.

3-When battery is 100%, disconnect the charger, even not in use. Wait until its at 7 or 9% juice left until the next charge. Battery gets weak over time if always on charge.

4-Disconnect the battery if you have no need for it and use AC power. Having a battery while constantly plugged in charging can cause acid to leak and eat your device.

Disconnect the battery by opening up the unit do you mean? Hey, that sounds just what I need, as I will be using my Live in the same location via power plug, with no immediate use of the recharging battery facility. ...Didn't realize that the Live can be used just with the PSU alone with no superfluous recharging of battery. Is the battery located under that hard disc cover underneath? many thanks in advance

Acid in the battery? Lithium is not acid, its lithium.

just like a cellphone, the mpc has controls in place to shut off battery charging when the cells are full, if they are over a certain temp, are discharged, etc.

you can keep the unit plugged in and you should not see any ill effects by doing so.

if the mpc didnt shit off charging, the battery would expand and explode. lithium wont leak. its ignites.

ever heard of the samsung galaxy note 7 ? did that leak or explode?

Honestly, just because a $1200 piece of studio hardware has a battery, the notion that it cannot be operated indefinitely on A/C power is totally ridiculous.

I don't know yet but it was stated that 3rd party batteries can be used so it can be removed. I remove the battery off my Satelites all the time and functions on AC just fine. Its opening it is the mission, I have the toolset, hopefully the screwdrivers I have can twist off the screws, some have a triangle socket.

The battery is in series/inline with the AC input, so in theory you CAN run this with no battery in the machine, but the machine is not designed for end user replaceable /removeable battery pack (or it would be listed in the manual ) and the average user will not do this.

Okay, me I'm wimping out here, don't wanna mess up my Live's warranty. Good info though from all concerned, thank-you.

Dan and Andy already mentioned the battery can be user replaced, its on their FAQ page as well but its being worked out which companies are compatible, we are still in beta mind you.

Is the battery user-replaceable?

It is definitely replaceable, though we do not recommend that customer's try this on their own to avoid voiding warranties and/or causing any damage to the unit. If the battery requires service or replacement, our support team is standing by and ready to provide service options!

_my_ point is yes the battery is technically removable/replaceable , but its not aimed at the end user to do so. of course people will hack things and modify things on their own, but not the majority.

and others are correct, inmusic may change their minds and totally say "yes you can replace your own battery".. but until then, doing so voids the warranty and could cause damage if one is not used to doing such things...

I just picked up the MPC live and I was wondering do I need to have the MPC powered on to charge the battery?

No. It can be charged powered down or on.
