A friend of mine was told by Sam Ash in NYC that their lot of MPC Live units were recalled by Akai, and that new units were expected by August.

Is there any truth to this? I would like complete transparency from Akai on this issue. Has there been a recall of MPC Live devices? Yes or no, please.. and, if the former, why?

Thanks.

I've not heard of anything official regarding this, could be a made up internet rumour, people putting 2 and 2 together - MPC Live gets released 9 weeks ago, after a week or so it disappears off the face of the earth, people reporting issues with it wiping internal contents on each boot up, MPC X delayed and apparently each unit receiving extra checks before shipping out to stores, etc.

I dont think Akai do recalls. The MPC1000 originally had poorly designed pad sensors that failed prematurely - Akai just updated the design for new units and offered a 'pad upgrade' for £150 to existing owners.

If it's made up, it's made up by Sam Ash, because that was what they told my friend. I've known the guy for 25 years. He didn't make it up. That's what Sam Ash told him.

Sam Ash is owned by Guitar Center, if GC didn't mention it then the employee of Sam Ash is a gossiper. :-D

Also Guitar Center owns Musicians Friend, Music 123 and AMS.

I wouldn't be surprised. :Sigh:

The launch has been bizarre so it'd go some way to explaining it.

This is exactly what i thought. Usually companies release a batch to there home country/most demanding country, then to the rest of the other countries. Its like there Home country or highly demanding country are sorta beta testers even tho they have had "actual" beta testers. Ive heard other people saying this too.

Here in Canada they are saying August so I'm assuming thats what happened.
I also heard that the CPU GHZ could of been changing from a 1.6GHZ to a 1.8GHZ. I remember seeing someone say that they noticed it got changed on there website so. Also I've heard they have re-worded some of there packaging because of complaints.

Yes, both the Live and X FAQs state they have a 1.8 gHz processor.

From the original FCC leaks, someone reckoned this was the board used, it runs a 1.6 processor.
http://wiki.radxa.com/Rock2/som

However I can't find anything official from Akai that ever states the Live or X were running a 1.6 processor Internet Archive has a copy of the Akai FAQ from Feb 2017 and it states it has a 1.8gHz processor:

https://web.archive.org/web/20170219172 ... ticle/2232

So IMO that's a red herring, I don't think these MPCs ever ran a 1.6 ghz processor.

Just like you said Peru was getting the first shipments of the X, you couldn't be more wrong.

GC is Sam Ashs biggest competitor.

Source: Sam Ash Employee. As a matter of fact I should run over to Sammys office right now to give him a good laugh.

My live works great. No issues. Only real problem is the lousy way they implemented controller mode. Not very seamless and is a work flow killa!

 You are a regular dummy. Just joined to talk shit huh? I'm sure you have some vast knowledge of MPC Lives but I never seen a single post, just mostly your usual kicking and screaming. My clue is that you've allowed yourself to take one too many in the ass by Sam Ash salesman.
