Hello all. I thought maybe I'd drop my quick thoughts after 24 hours of owning the MPC X.
A couple of things I've noticed, good and not so good.
1. The machine itself is gorgeous... better looking in real life than the videos.
2. Time Stretch/Warping may not translate properly from controller mode to standalone mode. If you're using Elastiq Mode in the 2.0 Software, warp some audio and bring over into standalone mode, you'll probably hear some time stretching artifacts.
3. The first beat I made in standalone mode was lost after the MPC X crashed
I was trying to browse for samples to put on an audio track and it crashed. I was let down in the moment... but I should've saved it prior to that happening. I guess I wasn't expecting a crash in standalone mode.
4. There's an issue with "Don't Snap" and how often it actually works when editing midi events. I'm working to find out exactly when it works and when it doesn't.
5. I think the screen cover it comes with is more valuable for branding than it is as a cover. I like it.
6. As much as I was waiting for this machine and love the potential of it in my work flow, I was really let down by not being able to use it with my computer for most of the day. I had to go and find an Akai guy just to get the drivers.
7. The pads feel great.
8. The ability to see what each Q Link is for is a game changer for me.
9. The actual audio interface sounds good. I probably won't use it much in controller mode, but for standalone I rock with it.
10. It'll take some getting used to, but I like the layout of the functions/buttons.
11. I wish there was a way to do track muting via the pads with the midi programs AND the audio tracks in the same screen on the hardware... maybe I just haven't discovered it yet.
