Hi guys,

I'm trying to implement current sequence control via MIDI on the Live. ie. Send a MIDI cc from another machine to the MPC in order to change the current sequence being played.
The way I've found to do this is through Program Change (which you can configure in the settings - other menu), but I'd like to control other aspects of the Live (current screen for example, go into pad performance menu, etc, control a specific filter/effect in the mixer etc). the MIDI screen does have options like "SEQUENCE" and "PAD PERFORMANCE" but nothing happens when you send it MIDI. is this expected or something that hasn't been implemented yet?
Thanks!

I had the same encounter. The receiving channel seems to be set to omni on the live as it still got the PC message no matter what channel I sent on externally or tried to change to on the live. If I sent the same pc message again (e.g. Program change 1) to change the sequence it would toggle between sequence 1 and 5????? I've enquired on the akai website's mpc live forum and the usual 'pass on to dev team' response was received. I'm really miffed with this as it's very basic implementation as far as things go although in the context of 'let's ensure standalone functionality is solid for release' then it makes complete sense! External midi control is a real deal breaker for me and my return window is closing in a couple of weeks so I'm not hopeful for implementation in the next month.

I forgot to add.... on Pg188 of the manual it says the midi control menus are actually for controlling external devices 'from' the live in standalone mode. Nothing I could see about external devices controlling the live. Strange there's no mention of this in the manual but I don't get why you'd have midi in sockets if this wasn't going to be possible though.

my thoughts exactly.
if the MPC supports plugging in class-compliant USB controllers, why wouldn't it allow for external control?
Since we're limited by 4 Qlink knobs, wouldn't it make sense to assign say a filter cutoff to an external MIDI controller?

Man theres a lot of things in that manual. I just use common sense play around with it and go.

For Real! It's not light reading.

I maybe misreading your comment but are you suggesting I'm perhaps missing something or that I'm maybe expecting too much from Akai? My common sense tells me that if a device has midi in sockets then surely it is accepting information from external devices?

PS. I'm a guitarist so my use of the live is somewhat unconventional perhaps but it's very dependent on external midi control.
