Song Mode - what exactly is the purpose of the pads here?

In standalone mode, what exactly are the purpose of the on screen (and physical) pads in song mode? Each one has a sequence assigned to it, but, as was the case in 1.9, they don't have any bearing whatsoever on the sequence that is inserted into the song mode playlist when I press INSERT.

Instead, either the sequence currently selected in MAIN is inserted or the last inserted sequence, so you have to manually adjust each time.

Surely the workflow should be:

1) Hold down pad relating to sequence you wish to insert
2) Hit INSERT while holding down the pad
3) That specific sequence is added to the playlist.

Or:

1) On screen, drag the sequence to the playlist position directly

Would also be nice to hit the pad the number of times you want it to repeat.
Song mode would be a breeze if you could just enter song mode then say press pad 1 once then pad 2 four times etc.

That´s how it works on the MV-8800. It IS a breeze!

Great idea. As it stands it just seems like they fudged something together for the initial MPC Touch release and then forgot to go back to complete it properly.

I've been thinking the same thing. Song mode also has a couple bugs which are annoying.

In controller mode: After you export a song the sequencer goes haywire and speeds up to extreme bpm. You have to restart the software to continue

Once you fill up the viewable screen where sequences are shown to the left you can't scroll down to see the rest of the sequences.

I really like the idea of tapping the pads to insert. Seems like a very easy thing for them to implement

While it's cool to discover some obscure hidden 'Easter Egg', this IMO is core functionality and should be documented in the official user guide. I wonder if this was also available in 1.9 or if this is a new 2.0 feature?

To the best of my knowledge, this feature has existed for some time. I can't recall if it was possible in 1.0 (not installing that virus on my computer). But it is definitely in 1.6 although the manual doesn't indicate this is possible.

I forwarded this information to Akai using the feedback link in the 2.0 beta software.

I think this works great.
It was either some earlier MPC or some other sampler, but I find this familiar from something I've used before.
