First off, just introducing myself... been using hardware and effects for electronica for 20 years, and only recently used screens after I fell in love with iPads in the last few years. Incredible apps like Samplr, Patterning & Sector are a thrill to use. Got a 232 to control them, but the Live was in the back of my head as a central brain of my setup.
The big recent decision: Octatrack or Live? Velocity pads, insane amount of memory and easier editing (read: easIER, not easy) made the Live my choice, but parameter locks and weird editing features almost pulled me the other way.

So here we are with the Live on the way in a couple weeks. A few questions I haven't seen answers to...

Outputs: Live has 6 + headphone and I intend to use them all. From what I understand, the click is on headphones and main. The question is, how assignable is a sound? I think I can route a pad to 3/4 and another to 5/6, but how? Can I route to 1/2 AND 3/4 or 5/6? Can I route incoming audio to an output?

iPad: Whose using one? At best, can I connect one to the Live utilizing an Apple MK0W2AM/A Lightning To USB Camera Adapter? Next, could I use the iPad as a MIDI controller via USB? Are any Live CCs controllable via USB or MIDI? I could use TC Data or MIDI LFOs to control lots of parameter sweeps....
Also, controlling the playing of slices and samples in Sector, Egoist and Modstep is going to be fun.

TWO MIDI INS: Selectable, assignable, filters?

TWO MIDI OUTS: Duplicates or more under the hood?

Controllers: How about some unconventional ones? Like a MIDI Fighter Twister, ROLI Bloc or Soundblox MIDI ring? What works out there beside a keyboard?

Thanks in advance :worthy: if you have answers for me! 2 weeks away from joining the fun...

uSB CLASS COMPLIANT MIDI CONTROLLERS WILL WORK VIA USB PORTS.. But its basic midi atm(can't control any internal mpc parameters like volume pan filters etc..). REgarding ios devices you would need a midi interface atm and your only getting note control.. Ios audio and midi two way communication via usb to the live/x would be a awesome feature imo.. imagine sampling and controlling things with the ipad/iphone... via usb...

Hi there,

Just checking how you are going with assigning outputs ...

I'm able to assign to different outputs and run a project like this but once I save the project the outputs changes aren't retained.

When I reopen the project after saving sometimes samples can't be heard on ANY output sometimes they return to the original outputs.

I've probably gone through and changed outputs for a full set of material 20 or more times and saved as or just saved and no matter what I do no changes to the outputs are retained.

Anybody else experiencing this ??

I use the Ipad extensively with the Live, but you need a usb powered audio card so you can route midi and audio to and from the Ipad.
Add something like AUM or AudioBus 3 on the Ipad and you can use it as external fx processor as well as controlling and playing synht on the Ipad from the Live

First, replying to the question about the Live not retaining changes to routing: I did not see this happen, but I will check it out today.

Using the iPad with a UMC404, so I have it (through a camera connection kit and ORIGINAL power supply [didn't work with every other spare USB charger, FYI) but I will feed the iPad MIDI from the Live via a MIDI cable, since there is no way to have the iPad via USB directly to the Live.

Using the MPC with Ableton LINK is incredible. I can bang out a quick sequence on the LIVE while Patterning plays the part of polyrhthym superpower. Blocs Wave is a great way to add loops. Just tinkering now, but I have a setup centered around 3 iPads and the Live, so Ableton Link is the best new feature for me.

Will add that if Sector gets Ableton Link, my setup will be a fully operational battlestation.

MPC needs polyrhthyms and probablilty. Check out the software Geist 2 and you will see how it SHOULD work for the Live IF they implement it. Parameter locks with assignable LFOs would be the ultimate. Or give us access the the CCs and my iPad could feed MIDI madness to parameters.

Mattriks, will check the loss of routing settings today. That would be an extreme bummer if they are lost... I am planning on sending incoming audio to output 5/6 (because I think the new update included this feature) so I will check that out as well. Would be nice to pass audio through the machine.
