I'm looking to buy some multi sample instruments for mpc live. Any recommendations? I already have all the multi sample instruments from mpc-samples.com

Did you down load the Air Instruments for free at Akai's site?

I hope you bought the rather excellent SP Neptune and Pulse multi samples?! :-D

I've got an absolute shit load of Kontakt instruments that I'm thinking of converting to Akai format. Can anyone vouch for the conversion utilities out there?

Converting Kontakt to Akai? There are no utilities that do that. You'd be best pressed to simply sample each note and build your programs that way.

But converting Akai to Kontakt is possible within the actual Kontakt VST. It just imports it all.

Translator claims to be able to do exactly that. I've got 100GB of synth multi samples to convert, so it'd be like having teeth pulled doing it manually.

I'll check out the demo and report back.

I am interested in Translator myself, if you test it out successfully I'd love to know how well it works.

I've just been looking at the demo but unfortunately it doesn't do any actual converting. :Sigh:

I may take a punt on the Akai specific version as it's half the price of the full program, but I'll start a new thread if I do. 8)

The thing is - Pretty much every Kontakt instrument you find is encrypted or packed in that format where the .wav files are only accessible if you used a cracked version of Kontakt to dump the contents once loaded into ram.

Coupled with the fact that Kontakt instruments often exceed in size what even an S6000 would not be able to load in memory, you'd need to have to lower the sample rate of the samples, and a bunch of other shit. And not to mention, the complex Kontakt scripting behind the instruments would be impossible to translate over into a program file.

What I was able to so on my S6000 was midi record, so every time I hit a key, it would sample and assign the corresponding note to the program. Or at least that is how my brain is remembering things. So the most I am aware of is, if you can unencrypt the Kontakt instruments, you could use translator to build a program by dragging and dropping each sample accordingly and export to .akp

Thankfully they're not encrypted. The fella offered multiple different sampler file types but you could only buy one, so I chose Kontakt for all the packs I bought as that's what I was using at the time. Each folder has the .nki files and then another folder with the .wav files. The programs are mapped out in a very basic way with a maximum of four velocity layers and no modulation, so they're probably ripe for directly converting to .akp files.

Manually mapping this stuff out isn't an option... they're absolutely vast! The Waldorf Q pack is 22GB on it's own! The Xpander and MKS80 packs are slightly more manageable at 12GB a piece. If I can't automate the process I'll give it up. I'll deal with the file sizes if I manage to convert everything. 8)

Extreme sampler convertor works well if you have windows. But it's only 32 bit.. I reinstalled all 32 bit plugins just to use it/convert it... I bought the akai Translator version to convert dwp files(directwave as it had a vsti sampler aswell with a destructive crossfade looping) but it still doesn't translate them even though it claims too . It does convert soundfonts though. Extreme does crossfade looping but you have to go through each sample and set it.. a bit laborious.. so i just set it to record the tail... without loop settings.. You can insert vst effects , choose the velocity and keygroup layers (each with their own record time settings) . Its a bummer its been discontinued...
I've converted over alot of kontakt stuff, chromaphone patches , tassman patches .. The mpc live is a very good sound module atm..

I'm on Mac but thankfully I use Fusion. Extreme sample converter is definitely the way to go for me. The demo lets you actually convert files whereas Translator doesn't for some strange reason. It's also really bloated which I don't like.

If I can work out how to get my programs into individual folders I'll be even happier. :)

Totally agree. This is why I'm going the extra mile to get everything I can on the SSD.

why not load an (old) AKAI sample CD ?
loads & loads of those on the net ; big Quality
should be plug & play

plug in a CD-ROM into the USB port of the Live or X and start listening
cumbersome, maybe
but in the end rewarding, no?

Yeah the only thing with extreme sample convertor is that you have to tweak the patch in the Mpc aswell ( adsr) ..
There's a few little additions that keygroup pgms need to make the Mpc live an extremely powerful sound module sytnth unit ..
A major one for me being portamento legato ..
