why do mpcs make the world go round?

Why are beatmakers makin more and more hits and traditional musicians using mpcs in there videos. I`m confused?










Sike I`m a little toasted and lately this very site got mofos tearing down mofos esteem with mofo gettting defensive and shit whats this and whats that. so I wrote my little two cents in. Actually today`smusic is way simpler but the music sounds good cuz its the beat damn it!!!!!!

Two turntables, a mixer, and a microphone is how it started with a synth or two.

it's good to know that you now your roots and foundations of where the music started, not to many fools nowadaze know that kinda sh!t,

i try to keep my sh!t simple thats why i use records because thats how it all started, with sample based music. these new producers use to much synth stuff to make there music, i say synths are good for elecrtonic music but hip hop should be rugged and grimeyand reproduced.

these new producers are too concenered with money on there mind. thats why the synth era came in hard as ****, casue all the new clearence laws that messed with biz mark and others in that era. Instead of loopin an james brown record and spending bout half ur budget on clearing 1 song, u could make an album with a triton. So u always gonna see keyboard prodcuers around. As what started as a good business descicon turned into a trend and its own style. I still use records and so does alc and kanye, but them fools is payin mad loot for clearence. lil jon dont gotta pay anyone, u do the math.

but u gotta be able to afford synths, and even then u gotta be able to write a good tune

yea but a synth cost nothin compared to the sample clearances they pay.... and u can make like 5 whole albums with a synth vs one somg with clearance..


just saying . i still like sampling better by FAR

nah hiphop should sound however it wants to...restricting a genre to a sonic signature or a particular way of producing is bad for all concerned....

Ok, Ok, I was asking about why is a major part of todays music being made with mpcs and shit? Rather than a traditional style instruments, and traditionals schooling? If heads are making the style of music that current wouldn`t it make sense to choose the instrument that has the sounds you are influenced by?

I like a good combo of sample and synth my self like a My Boo or the Marvin Gaye inspirted "I wanna get to know you"

But it go up and down in music from Breaks funk, Planet Rock, Flava in ya Ear, Mr name is Slim Shady, Ruff Ryder Anthem, Can`t knock the Hustle, Let Me Ride, I Can`t Stop the Rain, Music Makes Me High, Big Poppa, Get Down, Throw em Bows, Stan, Multiply, Change the Game as you can see it Sample based hits, Synth Based hits to Nann Ni*** the crossover of Southern synth based sound I aint scared. But it will only get better after the bull*s*h*i*t stops. I almost forget the Nellmatics, Chingy, and the other singalongs.

But hey most use a mpc or beat machine anyways/

technology dude...everyone went mad for electric guitars back in the fifties...same here with the onslaught of rhythmical electronic music....real drum kits just cant recreate that slammin locked groove a drum machine can....just as drum machines cant recreate the nuances of a real drummer...therefore its a case of horses for courses...

the reason cats don't like keyboard beats is because the cold/dry sound, what I do to get that sampled sound is play a riff to a metronome and sample it then build around it once sampled... **** recording midi messages to do everything.

no the reason cats dont like keyboard beats is casue they are lame, and are usally very cheesy. And alot of cats think they are makin real deep musical tracks but they doin simple cheesy melodies that anyone can do if they subject themselves to makin thouse tracks. theres exceptions to the rule but not many.

keeping that in mind sampling is a MUST! the dirtier the better. But you cant really diss synths or keyboards a combination of the two (MIX) is like a good mixed drink or dish.

external synths have been used since the dawn of hip hop, alongside sampling!

Virtual synths- forget it. Im not even going to go into why . Put the Aturia moog VST next to a real moog and listen.

why do MPC's cut it?

Cause its fast to use, fun to use, simple but deep (other brands try to imitate but they flake due to their many useless options and riggid quantization) & you can SAMPLE. other than abletons live I dont know any software sampler that has a record sample button!!!! (importing is not sampling!!!)

I love grimey beats and keep in mind that all of the stuff that u r sampling was played by a human. so why do u think that it isn't possible to create a grimey hip hop beat with a synth?

I don't sample but respect it for what it is. My goal as a musician who has been playing instruments since i was 9 is to make original and creative music.

Some of the tracks that I create sound like sample but none are. The key to being a producer is know your craft well. I pride myself in being able to make a track from scratch sound any way I want it to. But this has come from 18 years of being a musician, being in major recording studios since the age of 12, and just being around serious producers for many years.

So modern synths can make any type of music, but u have to have the skills in order achieve your intended goal. Learn your craft properly people and stop frontin.
Also to me no one is a producer unless they are making a living off of it. That is like me saying that i am a race car driver because i have a fast car and race people on the highway.

When people say keyboard beats I tend to think of the triton sound and it's crappy presets.

Nothing kills a track like cheezy strings with a gangster on top.

Pete rock makes sample based hip hop, and most of his basslines he plays.

Mad cats use analog stuff and are not 'keyboard' beats.

In that Making of the black album video pharell's beat was done on a korg M1, with the internal sequencer. If there is a synth I can't stand, it's the M1!! gabbage sounds, and his beat, was gabbage too, that's why he kept hyping it talking about carlitos way and shit.

Then Jay Z says not in front of Pharell - some cats you work with cuz they have a name in the industry, others you work with cuz they bring the heat. or some shit like that.

What a dis to someone who deserves it.
