The only thing for me is I really wish they had put little physical buttons directly under the screen, to represent the buttons on the screen. Those things are pretty tiny.
Actually I also wish they did the classic shift function per pad, like in the mpc 1000 (and others I am sure, just the 1k is the only other I know).
I would even be ok to place stickers above he pads to remember the functions if they ever implemented that.
So 2 things.

It's a bit ironic but I would trust using the Live in a live scenario. I've had a few bizarre crashes and lockups recently. You'd look a total clown if that happened on stage. :Sigh:

There is a video of an Akai representative doing a demo/lecture on Live, and it does indeed crash there.
He laughs it off, and luckily he does have the set that he creates on the fly saved on the HD, so he can continue.
But yeah, not a great look.
No way I'd trust Live in a live set.

I'd recommend BM3 and midi the ipad to your mpc for the pad feel.
I do this with my 2kxl / 4k, it feels good and right.

I actually really like the quneo pads. They certainly don't have same feel as any of the mpc pads I've used but they do feel good and are very responsive and tweak able. In addition the quneo has lots of MIDI CC capability to control BM3. I suppose I could map the live's qlinks to BM3.

My main issue with iOS, though not a serious one, is the storage. I use a novation audio hub with a small MIDI interface for connectivity and a card reader for data transfer.

Truth is I have too many options which was by design. BM3 was the curveball i didn't expect this year. I was ready to move on from JJOS but wanted to compare the feature sets and workflows from other machines. I explored a lot of different gear over the passed 3 years.

I used to mess with ableton quite a lot. Mostly with monome grids and Push2. I much prefer hardware which functions untethered which is why I held onto my MPCs like forever.

But my digitakt sold which reduces my options some. I really like the sound of that one as I've said many times. The filters, reverb and delay make the Live effects sound cheap. But the digi has physical constraints and no clear roadmap of development for its functionality.

Yes, you smacked the pony's ass with that one. I sold my Digitakt for the exact reasons you mentioned. I was hoping for that one but I just feel gypt by Elektron.


...so funded it toward an DJS-1000 :smoker: :-D

I’ll I think he was talking the other way around, but I’m the opposite. I wanted to get on with elektron more but to me the sound/ whole unit was mad cheap. Dont know if it was the mono or what but it seemed to just suck the life out of my samples. The reverb and delay were cool but honestly not like over the top better than the live by any means in my opinion.

Sucks you weren’t feeling the live. I have my grips don’t don’t get me wrong, but I still like it more everyday. Maybe try to find something to use with it. Pairing it with the asr-10 was a game changer for me.

The pioneers are definitly slept on too by the way.

I could never get into any of those other machines. I just knew they weren't for me. I can do all l wanna do with the live. That's my machine and lm sticking to it. :smoker:

I'll say it too "BM3" is that deal, to have all that(sequencer,dope @$$ sampler,mixer and all the IOS synths and FX) on an Ipad is just overdope!

In sample packs, for the sake of wow factor, there's often very wide sounds, and sometimes the widening isn't very mono-compatible. Those sounds will weaken a lot in mono.

While recording my samples in and any previous samples I had loaded on over the computer. Some mono like drums, others like synth loops in stereo. I wasn’t a big fan of the sound, while others love the sound. I guess it’s a personal taste thing.

I just didn’t vibe with it. It’s a cool box and all, just not for me. I gave it months but I just couldn’t get things to sit right in that box. The pioneer box is more of what I was looking for, I only had an analog heat beforehand and figured I’d give them a shot with the digitakt.
