new here and shout out to the MPC Live/X Bible

The MPC X is my first Akai MPC product, so the environment is new to me. As soon as I brought it home, I purchased the MPC Live/X Bible, and it has proved to be extremely valuable. I have added a 1 TB internal SDD, installed the MPC 2.0 software and drivers and have that functioning correctly, updated the firmware to 2.07, and am now about to start going through the lessons in the Bible.

Reading through this forum, I am already finding useful information for future use as I get farther into this device.

My long term intention is to use the MPC X as a stand-alone device, rather than having to connect to a computer other than to transfer files.

So, thanks to the author of the MPC Live/X Bible and all the folks here in the forum.

One problem I have with the MPCX is that it is so much like a laptop that I keep thinking that I can just copy files from one drive to another (SaveAs is the work-around) and possibly other activities I expect from a full PC. This is not the fault of the MPCX, but instead just a mental shift I need to make, which will happen as I get used to the work flow.

I had the same problem a few years ago with Android tablets. Since Android is essentially a stripped down Linux with a Java-like programming language, I found that I kept running into limitations. I never really got into using my tablet because I could do what I needed with my laptop anyway.

I would probably have the same problem with an iPad vs Mac laptop or desktop, so I stuck with the Microsoft Surface and have been fine with that because anything I can do on a desktop, I can do with it.

The MPCX is different because it is optimized for music production and (in my opinion) has several disadvantages over a PC-based system tasked with performing similar functions. So, for me, it is simply a matter of spending time working through the MPC X/Live Bible and learning the work flow.

If I'm honest Tony, I never really got into iPad/tablet producing. I tried numerous times, & still try now & again, but the workflow for me isn't there..Maybe it's the tactility of pads over a touchscreen only, I know you could add midi pads to it (tried that too..) but it never felt right, so it's hardware all the way!!
The Live being portable is what swung it for me, as I have a Maschine Studio/Mac set-up at home. I know what you mean about the copying of files between drives, it's a bit of a pain...maybe that will come in a future update.....
