i agree that the existing features need to be on point but my feeling is that the computer in this box can surely execute, at the very least, what the 4000 could and have everything run smoothly. I’m not talking about NI Kontakt depth. Simple things like a pitch or aux envelopes.

I’m going to stay optimistic that both of our wishes are fulfilled. But I can see Akai not wanting to pay well enough to get programmers or coders or whoever the **** that can make it happen. We need the Roger Linns or Dave Rossums on this shit.

Frankly, midi out via USB would make such a difference to me, I would happily settle for that only.

2nd on my wishlist, clip mode that doesn't stop when you switch to a different view (I know you can record clips, but defies the point of having clips).

3rd perform mode that still works as expected once you change view. Ie: if I set a scale and go to program mode, I still play on that scale.

I'd like to see overdubbing on Audio Tracks (though I'd imagine disc streaming will me necessary before this is do-able), and most importantly, the ability to CUSTOMIZE X/Y effects and parameters. I mean, why can't I have Reverb or Chorus on the X/Y? makes no sense.

More visual GUI for the effects, in general, would be nice. I'd like to see a little more love on the visuals for effects.

With the 1.8 GHz quad core processor it should be able to do twice as much of what the 4K can do.

My only beefs with the Live and all new MPs is that you can’t preview a waveform like a pitch shift, time stretch, bit reduction before you process the change, you don’t have the option to create a new waveform or overwrite the original when you process a waveform change, and when you extract a section of a waveform you land on the original waveform and not the extracted one...like wtf?

I think that's because if you wanted to extract another portion of that same sample you would have to navigate back to the original sample every time you extract some material.. It happens all the time that I want to extract multiple sections..

I remember that around this time with the NAMM of last year the net was flooded with videos about the new MPC's and stuff.. I bet the Akai booth has been closed of to the public this year..

There is no buzz or hype for this years Akai Namm showing. I hope they show some updates.

This is it..

So 2.1 update adds the Expansion tab in the Browser, which is there in controller mode 2.0.8, but still not a real expansion browser as it doesn't have the 'grouping' feature, it's still just a shortcut to the expansion 'content' folder with a 'program' filter applied. Question is, will it be possible to install third party expansions into the Live to have them appear there as well as the stock expansions? Not looking likely but would be nice to have the firmware updater offer the option to copy over your expansions during the update process.

But bring on the bug fixes, always welcome, but this just sounds like a 2.0.9 update, not a 2.1. What would be good would be to see Akai moving to a single release cycle for standalone and controller modes, doesn't make any sense to have these two month periods where standalone is missing controller mode features.

I guess NAMM is all about the networking, but I got the impression most companies don't bother with a stand unless there's a big new product release to show off. Are Andy Mac and Dan Gill there?

Akai is such an amazing company that truly listens to their fanbase.

Let's hope that the bug fixes are at least something useful.

Arturia on the other hand seem to have some great new products out, very tempted by the Minibrute 2s

NAMM is about sales. Meet with your reps, forecast what you’re hoping to do for the year, and lock in deals. New gear is just icing on the cake; you really want to know what your suppliers are going to do price-wise for your inventory.
