Turning point in my MPC career ....

Yo' I thought about that before I even bought it.. I took mine back, and I got a Roland MC-307 which has over 1,000 sounds already for $300, then I got the Roland SP-808 Sampler which has a100MB disk for $400, and then a cheap DAW for about $300 and I spent about the same for an old school set up that's now makin' me money.. You can't record vocals into the MPC so don't play yourself on thinkin you gonna sell mad beats.. If it don't make dollars it do'nt make sense..You feel me...Holla -Jesus Christ4Life

I recently got ProTools, and I have to say this is now the HOTTEST setup.

A computer by itself is cool, but this is better I think:

MPC 1000 w/mem upgrade
Turntable w/preamp
Tascam Analog Board
PC 2.8 p4 512 160GB
ProTools LE factory suite w/bomb factory plugs, etc...
Korg X5
KRK 5" powered monitors
A home stereo system also hooked up
A vocal booth built into a HUGE closet
Some spots to chill and smoke a blunt (with xbox)
A crap load of sweet records...

This setup I built in about 6 months. It wasn't to much or anything, and there are more things I still need. For now, it is perfect. I suggest something along the lines of this...

if you dont make dollars it dont make sense???? holy crap dude, music isnt some multinational that your heading, its a f*cken art form. i cant believe you've made any money out of it.... get a life.

homeboy dont understand that he could get a mpc 2000 and a 8 track for bout the same price. ignorance is bliss.

Its probably not the same for others, but i hate the idea of running all software i think its just such a cop out! i run all outboard and mix and edit in pro tools, i just find sampling software to robotic and to perfect, as its the imperfections which give music its character and depth, the live elment is def. a factor, real time sounds, live micing, why would you give all that up?!

Howdy fellow Londoner! Yeah, there is a lot to be said for keeping the feeling going with a load of hardware.. What's your setup beside ProTools?

i run through an mbox, can afford anything more advance, id love to go for a firewire m-audio, but regardless!,

pro tools, run through my stolen sound system which has pretty clear and crisp responsive monitors,
cubase SE,
juno 60,
korg ms2000,
1210s-in the middle of buying a new mixer,
fender telecaster,
martin acoustic,
line 6 amps w/ vir amp modelling,
various effect pedals- dd6 delay, various disortion, boss chorus,
rode nt1a, shure sm57- for live micing

kinda primitive and not very much, but i like it at the moment, restriction breeds creativity!!!!!

With you on that one. Most of my synths are almost laughable when you compare them to the spec of modern gear (5 of them are mono for a start) but when it comes to sound, they kick butt! I am sure we have all lost countless hours **** around with technical issues rather then writing - keeping it simple helps reduce the lost hours!

Mainly into Acid and techno(ish) stuff. Living in Greenwich (SE) and work in Liverpool Street..

no truer word spoken, analogue- you know what your getting, no reading the manual for three days, plug and play, old mono synths are awesome, you can really chug some fat bass lines on them,

Plus, you can record vocals, instruments - anything you want really. The converters are quite nice.

software or hardware, it doen't make a difference. As long as you have an ear to find samples, that's all that matters, just look at Madlib!

I almost sold my MPC the other day, then I had a panic attack.

I ended up (am in the process of) selling of almost everything else instead. The sound of the MP is not itself my best sampler (E-mu) but I think its more flexible when using external EQ. Plus the flexibility of the 1k (Effects input, record while play, 128MB, compact flash, portable, outputs.....) Word to yo momma, I think you should sell it and stick with Fruity loops. Damn they should have given the 1k a tilt screen tho.

Oh yeah, hardware rules over software, at least until you learn how to use hardware, then you can maybe figure out what all the software is supposed to do. peace.
