What microphones are you using with your mpc x/live

Hi what microphones are you using with your mpc? I seem to be getting a low signal vocal recordings with my shure sm58

I have my microphone connected to the rear input 1

I thought you had an MPC X - doesn't this have built in mic preamps (therefore giving you full signal level from the SM58)?

I got a SE Electronics Z5600a II for around 750 Euro and recently got a Aston Origin for like 250 Euro.
The Aston Origin fits my voice so much better so all of my upcoming recordings are going to be done
with the Origin.

The Z5600 needs way to much de-essing cutting away other frequency's that are needed.

I use a zoom h5 and plug my sm57 and 58 into that

Hi yes i have a mpc X, im not getting a good signal

You must turn up the gain knob verry high to get a good signal.. The first 60% won't give you anything and than suddenly it starts to boost the signal dramatically.. (It's not easy to control but you will find a sweet spot)..

i have the gain fully turned up, still low signal level, maybe i need a preamp...

In theory the X's built in mic pre amp should be more than adequate, that's what it's there for. I wonder if this is a common issue?

Thats what i was thinking

I use the Live, so its a given that I use a preamp. My mic though is a $20 Behringer mic and is pretty high quality for a cheap mic.

I never plug a mic without a preamp though.

Ok i think i know what it was, when xlr connector is used mic pre-ampd automatically engaged. If using 1/4" TRS cable mic pre- amps is bypassed

Yep Live doesn’t have preamps so you need some good ones to drive your mic ins...I’m on the hunt for a compact interface that has good preamps and can work standalone without the need for a laptop that has it’s own DSP mixer and plugins..Up until now RME’s UCX and the Keith McMillen Kmix are on the top of my list...Friday i’ll go pick up my friend’s UCX to test if i can achieve parallel compression without phase issues.I spoke with a tech support guy in Keith McMillen’s forum and he told me about Kmix though fast it’s DSP it may cause phase issues.This one’s crucial for me cause i like to mix like that to tighten up the mix.We had big troubles with the mixing engineer at our latest gig and i said “No more!”...3 hours sound check for 3 machines!Insane!And at the end of the day my band mate had no low end cause on the last minute that guy must have switched channels because of bad cables and left the gig for another one

XLR is the most hot and strong signal, TRS cables being lesser. Don't know why it by-passes the 1/4" outs and allows the XLR a preamp.

How are your gain knobs functioning..?? Lineair or dramatic boost after 60%..??
