How to kill MIDI echos on an MPC Live?

When I drive an external synth via MIDI out, it immediately re-triggers the same note that comes back via MIDI in (all my equipment is connected), which in turn triggers another note.

On other sequencers you can kill this MIDI echo, how to do it on the MPC Live? Probably just have to set "local off" on my synth.

I'm also very interested in solving this issue.
