9th Wonder Comments On Jay Dee

"check it, on some real shit, for hip-hop production as we know it, everybody samples, but damn, for cats who sample, Jay-Dee is THE #1 reason why I spend an extra THIRTY MINUTES on drum selection after the sample is done. I learned chops from Preem, basslines anmd filters from Pete, voice sample usage from the RZA, but that drum shit and bringing the sample, bass, and voices to life, ALL JAY. Oh yeah, all these cats with offbeat drums, and crazy filters, Jay is the pioneer of that shit. While we were saying "damn, and "shit" and "what the ****" to Pete and Preems beats in amazement, Jay's production is the first shit I've ever said "ooooooh" to. The second is the mighty Nicolay. This **** is dope as ****, best believe it. His beats will really put you in place.

So, we can safely say that Jay is on the Mount Olympus of beatmakers with Pete, Preem, Rza, and Dre. Don't be fooled by the so-called "new jay". That **** probably still got oohgobs of "old jay" beats just chillin in the cut, waitin for a **** to slip. Like it or don't like. It's the damn truth. Shit, I bumped Fantastic vol. 2 like it was Midnight Marauders reincarnated, and that album is over 90% DILLA lets not forget"

JAY DEE......I cant comment at all cause the guy had his "niche" locked tight! How I wish I could be him. But you know what I'm not doing bad my self come to think of it so.....its all good.

9th did an ill joint on Masta Ace's Latest album too

I thought 'Runnin'' was iller than 'Drop' . This sh!t is crazy though 'cause I was just listenin' to 'Fall in Love' this mornin' . Jay Dee is the sh!t no doubt (have you checked the track he did on MadLib's brother's album ?) . But 9th has put in mad work that I think a lot of people haven't heard . I've got almost 50 Just-Us League songs that were all produced by him (& probably a few by Nickolay) and they're str8 classics . Who's got the Foreign Exchange album ? P.S. I've got the beat CD that 9th was sending to artists w/ that Masta Ace beat and there were some on there that would MURDER that beat , Masta Ace just did his thing . . . . . . . why does everyone sleep on Kev Brown ?

Ninth`s beat on De La Grind Date Reality with the Vocal Sample is nice also.

two dope cuts....but for me it's definitly the other way around......."Drop"....before that I don't think I ever heard a melody like that...if I remember correctly...it was a reversed melody[not reversed drums like paul revere(beastie boys) or if it ain't ruff(n.w.a.)]......man I bugged the fu*k out hearing that beat...with "runnin'" I was like "yea...this is the shiz"....but "drop" i was like "who the f*ck did this beat?"

I respect Jay Dee to the fullest, however, Okayplayer has a bunch of fanatical dilla clones/admirers that take things to the extreme. Even the pros.

love running that's one of the few hip hop songs that can almost bring a tear to my eye (shit just has mad emotion)

LoL......I don't know man......I can see if a pro or two gives him props.....but you got a gang of pros giving him props he gotta be doing something right!

Well, all of us MPC users are have to burn our brains before sailing on a 4 bars track, then we are used to say that Software users don't meet all that shit, don't live the beat how we live it.

There is a part of truth in it: I turn on an Acid Pro or a Cool Edit, plays record a sample on it, then get a lot of vst's to Eq it at once, convert it to a wav file in almost 2 seconds, and import all that sample shit on a Fruity loops. On that Fruity Loops screen, I set a standard 90bpm, set the lenght of the patterns ( one bar, two bars...) , set the lenght of the samples ( I mean drums, bass, and everything) in a minute... Then put my song's patterns on a playlist to finally mix all those tracks on a virtual mixboard...

Everybody can do that, MOREOVER tons of cats are cracking those softwares, so they got it for FREE... Here is the "gap"; this is free and quick ( get a .wav file of each track of your song if you want in ten minutes, or track it via midi; and each track plugged in ANY vst compressor or eq or I don't know u used to spice your shit ( you can make chains of 7 plugs per track), WHEREAS our hardware is long and expensive.

Excuse me for what I'm gonna say about software users : they just SOUND WACK! Obviously, they don't go further than a kid with a Ejay demo: this is too flat, too cold, no colors in it.

There is only one guy who got hot beats on it, only one who gets classics: 9TH WONDER... We are musicians, he just does music. The shit is like this "you are a GOOD, or a BAD musician", that's it. He 's got the purfect cut on melodies, and I've never heard anyone throwing those creamy snares from a computer ( even from a machine).

And this is the same with Dre on a million dollar config, Pete Rock on the SP( now gone to the 2kxl) an Dilla on the 3000, nobody else had done what they did before'em, that's he meaning of the word "CLASSIC".

(One day will I sound like JAY DEE??? DAAMMMNNN!! lololol!)
