Writing Entire Song On One Sequence

I work entirely with long sequences and automate things..Cheers!

The MPC LIVE or X works well for creating long format compositions as well as Orchestral pieces. All you have to do is export the MIDI and import them into your favorite DAW to update the sounds. Or create the sheet music by importing the MIDI into Finale or any notation software for live recordings.

Not to mention exporting all your tracks as WAV stems is bonus.

I've composed music this way. The fact I can change time signature with each sequence is great. To me, this has always been the strength of standalone MPC's, it allows for many different styles of music.

Yes you can have a separate track for each instrument.

Air products that are on the Akai site when you have an account. You don't have a live so you can't see it. But they come free. Indudstry level vsts. A few of them l paid for them when l had Protools.

One issue when creating one sequence from a song is that if your sequences making your song have different tracks, your new long sequence will likely play wrong. I understand that your new sequence has tracks reflecting tracks of the first sequence of your song.

I wonder if people have tips on how to organize your tracks in your project to avoid this issue. I never quite understood why each sequence couls have different tracks to start with. I am probably missing something here.

Like the rest of the MPC's of past, you have to be mindful of what sounds are going onto the tracks.

If Sequence 1 looks like this:

SEQ1

Trk1-Kick

Trk2-Snare

Trk3-synth sample

Then Sequence 2 should look like this:

SEQ2

Trk1-Kick

Trk2-Snare

Trk3-synth sample.

If you rearranged the sounds from the tracks, then you'll have problems.

Just remember!!

The thing that will solve that is Explode! It will make tracks for every instrument easily.

I was thinking more like this:

(Seq = 64 measures)

Starting measure 1:
Trk1 Kick
Trk2 Snare
Trk3 Hats

Measure 4:
Trk1 Kick
Trk2 Snare
Trk3 Hats
Moog Bass

Measure 8:
Trk1 Kick
Trk2 Snare
Trk3 Hats
Moog Bass
Rhodes

Measure 12 :
Trk1 Kick
Trk2 Snare
Trk3 Hats
Moog Bass
Rhodes
Vocal Chant

Track 16:

Trk1 Kick
Trk2 Snare
Trk3 Hats
Moog Bass
Rhodes
Vocal Chant
Prophet pad

See where I'm going with this? Building up the drama on one sequence. I would then do a breakdown in the middle by removing parts, then going full steam at the end for drama. That's how I would do a TV cue.
