MPC Live limitations

I've used my google-fu, youtube and manual but I cant find these answers

What are the limitations when using the MPC Live

Polyphony
Standalone mode:
Connected to pc:

Number of effects in use at the same time
Standalone mode:
Connected to pc:

64- stereo voice polyphony
Four effects at a time on each pad.

When Connected to PC it depends on your PC.

So i can run 16 pads times 8 banks times 4 effect (512) at the same time? Sounds insane!

Don't forget 4 instrument, 4 times 4 sends and 4 output fx :shock:

Personally I'd prefer half the slots for twice as powerful fx :idea:

You can try. There’s a cpu meter in standalone that’ll give you an idea of when you’re pushing too hard. I guarantee if you use all the pads w/ 4 effects ea., you’ll be putting out the MPC w/ a fire extinguisher.

Yeah when I first got the live I tried the large reverb in every slot pad / track / send and one snare hit was about 70 to 80% cpu :shock:

Listen to Endtroducing by DJ Shadow and then look what he made it on. In my opinion, most of the limitations are in the mind and creativity of the user.

THIS, can get you around many limitations.

Works on lots of gear that can record itself and/or print output to sample.

Come to think about it - that album was probably 80% of my reason for getting my first sampler which was an SU-700 and just had floppy disk loads to start, then I got the 100mb Zip disk and 8 out board and NEVER complained about it. Haha

Never had any trouble using a lot of effects.
You can put them anywhere. As insert in every pad or instrument (4), in send return (4), in the master (4).
Never had any issue with cpu, they are not cpu hungry. Some of them are good, especially filters and distortion and delays, some are ok, reverb is not the best you find.
As for polyphony, you can use as much you need, I never had any trouble also with that.
Keep in mind you can also route the send to a different output and use some external effect if you want.

That's why I never have CPU issues even when I work in a DAW. Guys be opening up all those VSTs, I open one, get the chords or Melody I want then Print it. Bam! Close that, open up another one dame thing, close that, I never open up 3 VSTs at the same time. Never did!

Flatten the pad will print the effect, and you can have as many effects on your sounds as you need without having to open up one for every pad. :nod:
