+1
it lacks far less than I wish it lacked,
by which I mean there are certain features that if they weren't there I wouldn't miss, such as clip launch.
If there was some way of personalising the OS to only load the features you use I'm sure that would improve work flow and hopefully stability

5. The extra banks.
6. The effects are tight not like that garbage Akai gave us on the MPC 2000XL.
7. Being able to go into controller mode.
8. Being able to attach extra hhd to it.

On youtube there are many videos of unresponsive screens :WTF: look here at 0:21, he has to tap multiple times before it gets it

I’ve heard and now seeing this issue with note repeat. No one ever gives details about software and firmware versions being used but thank god I haven’t experienced this issue. I wonder if it could be that or earlier built models?

Feel sorry for dude, but I am glad it never happened to me and I am one who got the first batch of MPC's when they first hit the scene.

Well written, I completely understand. I'm no professional producer or anything but I enjoy sampling and making instrumentals from basic samples, I was never really a FL Studio or Ableton or any kind of PC DAW type and that's why my first purchase was an OP1. It was fun and portable, but I outgrew it due to its limited ability in what I wanted to do and that's why I'm after a LIVE now. It might sound wrong coming from someone who doesn't have a unit yet (I'm working on it though) but I can't understand the expectations of the machine from those who react to it negatively. Even though I don't have one yet I really don't think I'd enjoy carrying my laptop around and making beats on that with a mouse and keyboard, the LIVE looks really appealing and judging by all the videos I've watched on it, seems to be priced appropriately (especially second-hand) for what it is.

And as for the design my only gripe with it is the removal of classic MPC buttons like cursors etc, I understand that there's a touch screen but it'd be cool if you had more options to use the touch screen less.

Some people see it as so and so DAW in a box and it doesn't meet their expectations - it makes me wonder how off my perception of the LIVE is, and I view it as the modern answer to the old MPCs with portability and a somewhat more compact size.

Oh the irony, I'm in the process of saving up for an OP-1 now. I know its a bit limiting, but I'm hoping the workflow will help me out when stuck in a slump. Especially the built in synths, I have a ton of gear and can easily get lost either going through the tons and tons of presets between all the gear of trying to NOT use presets and spending a bunch of time tuning synths trying to find something. And comparatively, the iPad - while versatile, and I use it when I don't feel like lugging around the MPC Live, it can get frustrating with some things just not working well together, and having a non-physical set of keys (and if I start bringing my XKey with me, I might as well bring the MPC too).

As for some of the negative energy, the Live sorta replaces a laptop, and that made people want to do everything from start to finish on it, but it simply doesn't excel at that. As well it has some workflow quirps that - while often make sense, slow some people down *cough me* enough to be an annoyance and/or lose that inspiration. I know there was some discussion in another thread about a high end MPC, and while I don't think they need a super high-end MPC, I think more of the population would have been better served with more horse-power and the ability to run VSTs (as a retired Reason user I can sympathize with these emotions)...more of a DAW being slammed into the hardware, than an expensive 'scratch pad'.

Side note, as someone who used to carry around a heavy ass laptop (19" screen, designed for playing games originally with 2 HDD) and a Push in a book bag, along with all the accessories and a Music Theory book, the MPC isn't REALLY any better. To carry around the MPC, I ended up purchasing ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071H ... UTF8&psc=1 ). then I needed a sound source and wanted some synths so I started carrying the iPad Pro around with me, adding that to the bag and I'm practically at the same weight class I was at with a laptop and Push. Then, because I want physical keys aas I'm learning piano, I added an Xkey37 and case. So frankly, if you want the lightest solution, your best bet IS a thin laptop and something like the MPD216 (or a step up as the 216 has velocity issues - experieince talking). Pair with any DAW of choice and you get MPC pads, with WAY more flexibility and a MUCH lighter profile.

I'm actually having unresponsive screen issues on mine but I've only noticed it when renaming samples, also I've had some pads repeating themselves but I think it's because my fingers were on them too long when it should really be quick jabs at them.

(Quoting messed up.)

Thats bad! Was it always like this, or did it start happening recently?

From the beginning but I can tolerate it. Normally using the touch screen is fine to me, everything but typing. Some keys on the virtual keyboard require a second press.

I think the economics for the MPC1000/500 and the MPC Live are different. The MPC1000 has a limited supply, no more will be manufactured, while the MPC Live is still in production, and if you wanted one you can get it first or second hand. This leads to people having different reactions in the market.

For instance, I've been looking at getting an MPC X, but a lot of the hardware being sold is at a good discount, but doesn't come with the software for whatever reason. This makes a buying decision more difficult for individuals, because what is the value of the software? Well you can buy it from Akai for sure, but then that increases the cost of total ownership for the second hand MPC X.

Personally I have a 500, 1000, and an Live. The Live hands down replaces the 500 for me, and I will probably sell it. I also haven't touched my 1000 since getting the Live, but man do I wish the Live had some of the features that JJOS adds to the 1000. I haven't developed the muscle memory on the Live that I have for the 1000, but I think I can get there.

Anyways, good luck with your decision man!

It's only been a year since release there's still hope out there for JJ to cook something up for the LIVE, fingers crossed. I never actually dug into JJOS too much despite my 1000 having it, what kind of features are you missing?

Very useful comment though, really puts it into perspective that even though the older ones have such an awesome rep and are almost a staple, they're not for everyone and at some point the new has its niche position growing. Hard to forecast the LIVE's future and Akai's plan with it though, but seeing as so many are for sale (I've actually found some even cheaper now and barely used) with everything up to the software included I may just pull the trigger on it!

Turning it out these days!

Everything fine here.
Never mind about people complaining about things they cannot do right.
I use it for live performance, mostly track mute, pad mute and qlinks tweaking for effects and I also connect some external hardware effects and control them from Live with midi.
No issues at all.
If you want to use it as a Live instrument it goes perfectly.
If you want to replace a daw for studio work, well, keep your daw and forget about Mpc Live

They still have the plastic screen shipping protector on! No wonder the screen isn't as responsive as it should be.

Recent grad to the Live from the Touch due to display issue. I'm now unhappy that I paid $1,140 ($1,200 - $60 saved on demo-ed Touch, given new value credit). LOL

1 disappointment & 1 additional wishlist item for me. My one disappointment is that it doesn't support multi-output plugins. PITA when it comes to drum VSTs. 2nd wishlist item is for plugins support in stand alone mode as I'm more VST than sample. Looking at it positively, I'll be spending a lot more time creating samples.

My way is a bit hybrid in that I use a lot of VSTs and have always worked in a DAW to some degree. But I dig the drum machine workflow. I've been contemplating which way to go for quite some time and finally decided to go drum machine and make the necessary adjustments.

Maybe I'm happier than the average person coming from a DAW environment as I was fully aware of the MPC's limitations, for the most part, vs my DAW. I watched review & demo vids for a month before I purchased the Touch. The exception was the lack of multi-output plugin support. Maybe because most that use MPCs are sample based, or that info is now buried on Akai's FAQ page, but I didn't come across that info until it was too late.

There are no VSTS in or coming in a standalone Live/X. That's why Akai gave the option to Software so you can use the VSTs of your choice. I am a DAW person also, but I use the MPC to handle all my drum programming because of its sweet tight sequencer. I don't have to deal with a computer and can export my patterns and bring it into my favorite DAW. Being I am a Tri-lingual DAW user i.e.(Protools, Studio One, and Reason 10) I understand where you are coming from. The power behind the computer and VSTs can't be beat. I don't let not having VSTs in the standalone stop me. As a matter of fact I don't want it. Get VSTs in the standalone and there will be problems! I would never want that. People asked for VSTs in Reason, they complained for years now they got it, now they are complaining the VSTs is killing the computer. WTF :WTF: You asked for it, Certain VSTs pull DSP power like a mug. Stay on your DAW. You're able to export your stuff and put it in the computer.

I can see the little plastic on the screen. See this is what I am talking about dudes making claims and most of the time it be THEM that's messing up!
