How do you record midi + audio into Ableton Live?

I'm trying to record midi and audio from my MPC 2000 into Ableton Live 9 Lite, however my MPC just says "waiting for time code" and I can't figure out how to trigger this from Ableton to record. My mpc is plugged into the two input jacks and midi in and out on my audio interface and I'm pretty sure I have all the settings correct on the MPC and in Ableton preferences. I've heard recording midi and audio at the same time keeps all the tracks in sync, so how do I record midi + audio?

Im new to MPCs and Ableton and have spent hours trying to solve this simple issue... Pls help

try one thing at a time.

plug your audio outs of the mpc into your interface ins.
play a beat from your mpc. set ableton to that same tempo and try to record that beat. can you do that?

after that you can figure out midi but get that first.
