Yeah; whenever I have to explain it and someone needs an example from the bigger league, I say Andrew Scheps went 100% software in his client work. He explains the reasons in interviews: there's no sonic difference and now he can work way faster.

Raw but clean sampling with alive sound.Cant recommend this route more imo.The SP FX help too.

Have you noticed that running anything through the SP-404, particularly the Lo-Fi effect ends up killing a lot of the low end on samples? I found that running sh*t through my SP-404 made my beats sound thinner which had me stop using it other than for running my S1000 synth patches through it for a makeshift effects box.

Ive noticed a loss of some dynamics yes of course. So i woul;d not maybe put a nice well defined bass through it and expect it to enhance or even reproduce it.Or maybe not a whole dynamic mix unless it was sounding better lofi and i can add on later. But i can for instance slam a snare or a whole multitube of sound through it and they fuse straight into the MPC.There i can amplyfi the result and turn it into some thing unique.Gives a lot of character.I love what the 404 does to recordings generally.Reminds me of tape. And some people dont like tape

edit-it definately trims off and softens the horrible digital highs.!!!!!

You will probably find an equal amount of opinions on either side about that.Like some will say that there plug sounds just like the old 1 inch take that they used in the eighties but much easier from there studio chair. But if i was using that tape i doubt i would have the same feeling.

There'll always be opinions, especially from those who don't know about things or haven't experienced them.
Internet comments from people…hehe. I've been told I should never use any Slate Digital stuff but I should get hardware only. Also been told I can not be a mixing and mastering engineer at the same time. Yet I do well at that. It's always the people who don't actually have that experience but who think they know better than you who will try to talk you down.
Even remastered a vinyl produced by Pete Rock and ain't nobody complained about that (that one was tough though).

well i think we all agree that an mpc3000 sounds better than a live, so im coming from the same mind set with hardware. i make a living working in a digital/analog hybrid studio and my clients are all totally passionate about an analog or hardware mix and master, that is what i do, i use plug ins when needed but i definately dont invest in them, emualtions dont cut it against the real thing and i have many here that i have a/b'd. plugins only on a convenience level, people like tony maserati are paid to say they use plug ins and to say they sound the same, if you belive it withouut testing for yourself thats fine. All these hardware companies are still making hardware, you would think they would quit and just license plugins with nice face plates if that was the case.

The 3K sounds "better" than Live due to what its components do.
What components do in hardware in general has been modelled to great lengths now.

Whether software and hardware sound exactly the same is a moot point.
Me, I don't care whether my UAD plugs would null in tests with hardware, and I'll never find out.
Whether they sound good (they do) and if you know how to make them sound good, that's what matters.
BTW, this no anti-hardware talk. Just talk from someone who makes his living by making software sound amazing.

There'll always be people who prefer both software and hardware.
If they only wanted software, there would be no MPC Live.

And convenience exactly. Let's say you're going to handle six songs (give or take) a day for different clients, and all of them may want some tweaks, and it often takes 1-4 days for someone to get back to you…there's no way you're going to be able to do that with hardware in any convenient fashion. That's the reason many have gone 100% software.
If I was given all the money to build an amazing hardware studio, I wouldn't do it unless I worked in very big leagues where they money is so big you can actually savor the process and work very slow for one client at a time.

Exactly! These pluguns are really great these days. It helps me bring out what l want and l don't have to buy hardware. Its really a beautiful time for us and its going to get better. Plus without a shodow of doubt plugins can do things hardware can't.

For instance. Sound toys Little plate is the perfect rep of the real plate. But sound toys little plate can go on till infinity. That is dope and l got that for free from Soundtoys and l got echo boy, filter freak and one more.

These companies are working hard to bring us the best.

There are FACTS and then there are opinions. I love facts way better and Fanu spoke facts.

Chris Lord Alge one of the baddest mix engineers on this planet use plugins even got his sig on some. Tony Masarati, Steve Powers and l can go on.

Lets not make it seem like plugins are garbage and hardware is it today 2018. Its the person behind the gear bro

Peace

Here we go with the same old age cliché. "People like Tony Mas get paid..."

Lets cut the crap. He uses it in real lifeits not just him there are a plethora of top people who uses them.

I've done test with others kin the game and plugins hold there own. That's why l switched. So am l getting paid? Nope.

If hardware is 100% lots of plugins are 99% give me that and again plugins can do things hardware can't.

Eric Persing and his development of his software is like the best! His keyboard shoot out with the top players in the world saud its just like the hardware. Circuitry vs science and emulation.

Why compare 3000 against each other? Both are different beast.

I thought we were talking about what a person is going to get in 2018. :smoker:

The "sound" on the MPC 3000 that some of you d*ckride is coming from the tight timing on it.

If I used a MPC 3000 to sequence an EMU E6400, you folks would still give some corny responses about "That 3000 sound" or other jerk off sh*t that gives credence to eBay folks asking over $2000 for them now.

The MPC 3000 sounds clean, I must be on a different planet because beyond the timing, I don't get what the f*ck some of you are on about.

ah well if name dropping is the best everyone can do i will leave yas to it, enjoy your plugin subscription renewals and just put that mpc3000 fx on you mpc live and it will sound just be like a real one because well the components have been emulated and u cant get better than that. i was just replying to the question asked and i said i dont spend money on plug ins but buy hardware instead, the plugins being made for free are as good as your branded ones they just look less pretty and dont buy endorsements from famous pop music engineer :vomit:

In my case, bro l'm really not worried about the 3000 sound. Im not trying to have the 3000 sound.

Yes l get updates and for me that's ok.
I see you throwing shade lol

Name dropping us not the best l could do. Actual shoot outs were done with some stuff. Doing a shoot out is the best way ibe can tell.

Cool, enjoy. If I'm name-dropping, I'll drop my own name, as I'm doing good with what I do.
You enjoy yours, I do mine.

You made my point. Its the person behind the gear.In my case its me and thats where i taking from.If you want to live in a world were everything is simulated go ahead.I came up on tape and splicing and appreciate the nuances and experimentation that come with that process.Thats what it all about to ME.I use plugs too.But if you were to ask me what i prefer id say the real thing.Second best is the emulation.Thats all bro :-D

:-D Yo man l'm NYC and l got my hands dirty cutting/splicing tape with a razor blade. So you're not talking to a cat that don't know about that. That would be like a dude who splice told you using Protools or any DAW is wack you go ahead and use a simulated process (computer) to edit tape.

When you use your hardware everything ends up in PT or a DAW right? If you're a TRUE HARDWARE guy don't use a DAW just go straight to 2 inch tape and splice

At the end of the day consumers of music don't care what we use as long as the music is hot.
