Explain your setup, it will help us help you.

A CF and ZIP don't "TAKE" ram.

They are external storage media used to store all your samples, seq data, program data and mixer and midi settings when your machine is off.

Save every 5-10 minutes when working on a beat/track/song whatever.

Your gear is what "takes" ram. Only when your gear in ON you have internal memory, that is the ram you are talking about upgrading to 32mb max w/ 2kxl/2k.

i have an akai mpc2000xl w/ compact flash (new blue ones)

its running thru my mixer.. thru my line in into my comp.

like.. when i load up my samples on to my mpc..

each sample i load, it takes away from the "snd=1900k"

do i need to upgrade to load more samples onto my mpc?

Turn on your MPC. After a few moments (detecting memory...) press SHIFT>LOAD.

A maxed out MPC2000XL will have snd=32620K (32mb) free memory.
If yours say something like snd=1800K as you stated, then clearly your MPC's memory is the standard 2mb of the shelf variety.
