Yeah l had the hybrid setup and it help me to transition into ITB and l didn't realize until it happened. I don't regret it either.

I’m trying to have a hybrid. Love hardware to an almost sickening degree but see the potential with software. I’m trying to find the best balance for me between the two Danoc.

i’ve came to the conclusion from reading. previous posts of yours in different threads that ... well... you’re a gear whore. that’s why i asked. people have said that i’m a slut in more ways than 1 but definitely with trying to get the ultimate setup.. everytime i think.. ok i’m good now. no.. it’s something else. now it’s a rack and to hopefully contain the **** ridiculous tangle of cords i got goin on. i should post a picture.

I’ve found that I like to write with just the live and like 1 or 2 things either iPad, a pedal or synth.

Now mixing and sound design I like a lot more with the daw. Still learning but there just too much for me to get distracted with to actually write on the thing.

Ah yes the loud war. How mixing came to me is crazy. I use to just get the levels right abd thought it was it. But learned its not.
I first read Bobby Owinsky's book on mixing. Still didn't understand until onevday l looked at a clock in my stu and it became as clear as day. I was missing that magic words STEREO FIELD !

The clock remindme of a stereo field and then that's when l started to understand Bobby's book. Now l can mix with no problem and go loud.
Trust me learning to gain stage and busiing your mixes will set you on the right path. That's why l love ITB so much no noise floor and mixing is sweet.

If I were to do it over I would have checked out other daws instead of just upgrading on ableton right away because I was so irritated. There might have been better and cheaper options out there.

naw i just dropped $440 for that interface.. i would upgrade to live 9 but **** that, not yet anyways. i spent enough coin at the moment. i’m just gonna juggle through the 4 measley inputs. maybe check reaper out. psych had nothing but good things to say about it. yea it doesn’t come with protools. just a protools “sound pack” ooooo! <— sarcasm. it comes with ableton live lite 9 which i already have.

Yea it’s embarrassing....
especially since I don’t have the most experience with stuff besides just knocking out grooves on an Mpc.

Expensive hobby but once I’m settled I doubt I’ll buy anything possibly ever if only to replace what I have.

From what I’ve seen you have most of what you need just learn it and when you find what you need to upgrade then plan for it. Maybe you wanna check out a differnt eq or whatever.

Yes sir. I do my sound design in my DAW in either Reason 10 or studio one, really dope software environment. I will never use Protools in my setup ever! Studio One smashes it.

That's another reason why l went ITB I DON'T NEED AN INTERFACE! MPC Live holding that part down.

i’ve noticed my snares and samples sometimes sounding like pure trash more than they already were. just turning my gain all the way down on my interface and recording in mpc with less volume has made a world of a difference. i took some kicks hihats n snares adjusted the hi mid n lows on my mixer and had it peak at -2db for kicks n 0 db for snares and turned the mid up a lil on the same kick and sampled again and layered them and they sound amazing. for me to learn i have to do it and do it till i find it to get it and last night got it perfect. now i’m diggin in my crates of 500+ for the perfect kicks n snares to beef up im addicited.

i want to get a live but i’m convinced my soul is gonna be attached to my 2500 i’m gonna be spookin who ever has it after i die.

no offense Danoc but salt makes beats a lot differnt than your style. You have more of the smooth type sound when dude has a a traditional hip hop sound. For his style and gear I think he’s got the best setup. Especially with his love for 2500. Everyone has their machine. I had a 4000 from dj abilities.... But for my sound and work flow in hindsight the live was a better choice although I have thought many times that I would have better off just with my 4000 and a dope sound card, I just love being able to write outside or because I work out of town , most weeks, I can take my setup with me.

My sound is differnt than the two of you. I want that lush sound but also aggressive slamming drums. For my sound I think I’m headed in the right direction with my gear. I have everything I need just need to master it all.

if you just consume yourself with your gear and more than anything just trial and error stuff you’ll get where you want to be.

Well in my defense, l'm from NYC and aggressive grass roots HipHop is what l grew up on and can still do. I can do all that on the Live, if not better than when l had the MPC 2000XL. The live's setup is bananas!
I also do orchestral, Dance Hall, Pop and RnB. All those came when l leraned how play keys.

I can do grass roots boom bap ITB for real. The reason for my reason purchases is to have those punchy lush creamy drums and sound.

Danoc there’s a big difference between my beats and the old ruff and rugged and east coast beats.

I love that old east coast sound but it’s not what I write.

I know you can do that sound, Ive listened to a lot of your tracks.

For his sound, if you ever listened I think it’s best he work with what he’s got and just master the back end of things. If you haven’t already check out salts sound cloud, he’s got some dope beats.
