Got my mpc2000xl finally!!! dunno how to hook it up?help pls

finally got hold of an mpc2000xl!!

32mb,8-out + effects installed!!

ok now the problem i have now is that i dont really know how to hook everything up.
i've jus got a few questions i want to see if anybody can help me with:

1.i mainly want to sample from cd,i have the digital in/out but dont know what cable and cd unit will i need?

2.i have 5.1 computer speakers,but no monitors at the moment.so i cant really hear any playback at the moment.but i do have a tascam us-122,not sure if its any good tho
what should i do? buy some monitors? or is there a way to hook up the mpc through my us-122 and playback through the 5.1's? or any other suggestions.

3.did not get a zip or cd drive with the unit,so im thinkin i need to get either a scsi zip or a scsi cd drive aswell? which one do u guys reccomend?

i live in the uk,so if anybody reppin uk,has some websites where i can get the stuff required,id really appreciate that.

You should never want to sample from mainly any one source. You'l find out that old tapes/microphones/old records/cd's all have a different sound to them, but anyways, you can only sample digitally if you have digital outs from your cd player. Go to radio shack (or Tandy as they call it in England) and grab some coaxil cables. If they ask you any more questions, just tell em you hooking it up to a cd-player.. they will understand. The digital out goes to the digital in.. digital out from the cd player, into the digital in on the MPC.

If money is no object, get some monitors, the best you can buy! ahah, just kidding.. seriously tho, you can use any kind of speaker. The secret is understanding you speakers. For right now, I would use any speaker I could get my hands on.. even a car boom box if I had to (and I did use one in the beginning). Don't waste you money on gear, I'm the king of cheapness..having less can sometimes mean learning more, because now, since you don't have a $3000 compreeor, you have to figure out a way to kinda get the same sorta sound.. nahmean? You going to learn a lot of tricks using the mpc, and from certain users on the board.
As far as the scsi zip goes, I know if you get an internal one, it has to be an ATAPI zip.. whatever that means, I don't know. I have an external one, but I don't know if it's scsi 1,2 or whatever.. I simply took my mpc and zip to the computer store and asked for the cable that fit it. Get the internal zip.. my cheaper, way more convenient.. and no-one buys floppy disks anymore.... unless they don't have a zip.

ps.. I used to rep Queens Park, Bedfordshire! Moved to tha 'D' in 88 tho!
