Panning is definitely not working on my X . . .

Whether I have a new or current project, panning the program, individual pad, outputs, etc. is not working on my X. The only thing that happens is the volume fluctuates, almost like it's putting the signal out of phase. It doesn't matter if I use mono samples, stereo samples, convert samples from stereo > mono: summed; There's no adjustable stereo imaging.

I'm running two balanced cables from the main outputs (1,2) into two line inputs on my Clarett 8 Pre X. I've swapped the cables out, switched the wire + output / input combination, etc. If I mute either input in Focusrite Mix Control, I get the same weird phasing / volume drop issue (still have output through both speakers, just at a lower volume)

If I play music on spotify however, muting either side through Mix Control, I only get sound through it's respective speaker (like it should be doing). I'm out of ideas on what could possibly be going wrong. Is there something I'm not seeing in my X that needs to be adjusted, or do I potentially have a defective unit?

Also: when I process a stereo sample from stereo > mono: summed, there are still two wave forms showing in sample edit for that sample.

I'm using firmware 2.2.2.1, standalone mode. I haven't even opened up the MPC software on my computer yet.

Is it the same through the headphone output?

I also had that problem but I noticed that it was caused by a plugin.

I keep that switch set to 'stereo' with the Direct / Main knob all the way up (on the main side). I toggled the switch between mono and stereo, but it's still the same result. This happens through my studio monitors and headphones. I've also plugged my headphones directly into the 1/4'' input on the X, still the same issue.

I'm having this exact issue right now.

When you pan to the right on anything (program, individual pad, plugin, etc.) the sound disappears on the main outputs - and even on the headphone outputs. What's odd is that the LEDs still show that it's outputting something - but there is no actual audio coming out. I've tried different headphones, different cables, different inputs on the DAC, and on a separate mixer. The behavior persists even when eliminating all other variables.

How about if you use an external interface?reloading the OS?Did you contact Akai?

The panning issue I'm experiencing happens on the main outs, as well headphone outs. I'm relying on the internal audio device - so I'm not using an external audio DAC to replace the internal audio card.

I reloaded the OS and did a hard reset - it seemed to work for one day and then the issue came back. I contacted Akai, but closed my ticket after the reset "fixed it" but the issue has come back and I submitted a new ticket. Waiting for a response.

Has anyone encountered this before?

To summarize the issue:


Panning isn’t working. Either on headphones or main outputs - behavior is the same regardless of output, cabling, program, plug-in, etc.

When you pan to one side - the audio itself does not follow, it stays centered. When you pan to the opposite side - the sound completely disappears. It’s as if the entire machine is operating in mono, or as if an entire output channel in the audio driver is missing. This behavior is the same regardless of output method (main outs, headphones), and it persist on plugins, effects, programs, drum racks, keygroups, etc.

Sounds stupid but make sure your mpc's left and right outputs are plugged into the proper left and right on your monitors or the audio may come out mono depending on monitors. as far as the headset goes though, thats most strange. almost sounds like your stereo, mono cue switch is dirty or faulty maybe.

3rd party plugins will cause this to happen. Are you using plugins?
