Akai just released a new controller for FL

My son put me onto this YouTube series by Genius called deconstructed. All the “hottest” producers break down how they created their chart hits. Was really surprised to see that over 90% shown were from FL users. I knew MPC’s would be shown few and far between, I was mainly surprised how FL seems to get more love than Ableton. Back when I was young if you had a copy of frooty loops to make music with, you got laughed at. Times have definitely changed, and I can see at that price point for it why so many gravitate to it.

The fact that you can link 4 units these together is a good move. Now all they have to do is make these compatible with the Akai 2.0 Software.

I would assume they will have template for the live/x/software. Now if they can open up the step sequencer functions they are crossing into the intended fruity loops and electron crowd. If they can have a streamlined system for having parameter locks in standalone, they will have a game changer.

Maybe the 2.3 update will be dropping soon with some sort ability to integrate the new mpcs with fruity loops?

I only bring this up as when I think fruity loops I think step sequencer, not banging in a Rythem or melody. On this controller video I seen then using the fire to make beats Mpc style.

I don’t know much about fruity loops and what it can do these days, from what I recall like (10-15) years ago it was a basic step sequencer /sample slicer. Made some good sounding beats real quick , but it just wasn’t as fun as a Mpc 4000

Although the short time I checked out fruity loops, a Roland 404, 4 track tape and fruity loops was pretty cool. I didn’t really know anything then about sound processing and still really don’t lol. 10+ years later and still feel like a rookie in some aspects.

for over a decade, FL has been the most used DAW. This is a smart move for both akai and image line... it will help get more licenses registered and it gets akai in a good hardware controller position.

that being said, this controller is trash in my opinion. The step sequencer has never had workflow issues that required to be sped up. This thing is not great as a drum pad controller, worse as a keys controller, the broweser navigation is mediocre looking (can be done with a lot of other controller too) and the mixer control defaults are hideous.

I think the projectmix IO (the really old m-audio firewire 400 control surface) set in cubase/mackie mode is better.. when paired with any other controller for midi input. Even an ableton APC or novation launch pad maps perfectly that way with performance mode.

This is a gimmick for laptop people who want to ponder the idea of performing with FL.

Everything about this controller at first glance tells me it would take longer to use it then it would take to click the mouse pointer to the step sequencer. This sh*t looks more like the thing that people would get to pose on instagram with.

If people want a controller for FL, you could take your pick of a ton of better ones out there. Even an MPK has all the proper integration one would need and far more midi knobs and faders to get down with.

Man I hear Gross Beat so much I think it's my name LOL They got a new joint called "HalfTime" I got that joint, it's nice. It does the Gross beat thing but a lil more intricate.

If they are using FL Studios already it's a no-brainer, especially for a controller made for the DAW for $200 . I'm just waiting to see how it integrates with other Software DAWS.

What will they add in the 2.3 update, that will improve your current production?
