Akai just released a new controller for FL

With respect to your response, I do have to ask - Have you used FL Studio? I don't know how right clicking on a step bank and choosing Fill Every 2/4/8 Steps is going to be made quicker and less 'monotonous' than using this controller. Hell, I do not even see how those that prefer to program in piano roll would benefit from this either. There are much better controllers out there with flexibility in my opinion. Just the idea of having to incorporate an external step controller into what FL's fast workflow ain't it yet.

But what do I know, I don't got pink dreads or face tats so this type of controller ain't gonna match with my fronts.

Yes, I have used FL Studio for a number of years before switching over to Maschine and then to the MPC during this age of software based sampling.

I find having a dedicated controller with tactile feel stimulates the creative mind in ways a mouse simply can't, even during procedural events that one may find mundane.

I invite this new product in Akai Pro's controller line and will most likely revisit FL Studio because of Akai Fire's design which makes great sense from a user perspective.

I don't mind this mere $200 investment...

It's going to be another dedicated sound module and I like the way the controllers link together. I'm also interested to see how the controller works with other software.

I've JUST heard people having issues with the Akai fire controller that its freezing up

I was looking at it and l see the pads correspond to those little blocks in FL. Plust it has a little transport on it. But dam its freezin up?

I have not seen any complaints about that. Might be user error like 95% of the time. Just like people complaining about ilok with the MPC Software.

lol yeah l seen hella people complain about the waves plugins and installments. They think you put the programs in the computer and it suppose to work lol they don't Like to READ! Plus Waves personal will help you they are the most helpful. Its so easy to install. Dudes love to complain and probably not making music.

When peeps say things like there were complaints guve us proof, a link or something. I can't go just by hearsay.

Couple things though...
Controllers, especially those already mapped - DO stimulate creativity. You don't need the Push for Ableton, but it just feels "right". The only real speed advantage of the push is using it as a sequencer. Otherwise, you can do everything, just as fast or faster, with a mouse and keyboard. So when I look at this for FL, I see pretty much the same thing - something that is not necessary in the slightest for the software, but will help with ideas and getting things down quickly, it is faster to use it for sequencing, then mouse clicks, but not groundbreakingly faster.

Where this will shine, and where I plan on using, is more live applications, not straight up production. I bought these exclusively to map to my drum machines for sequencing purposes, being able to see multiple instrument patterns at once, quickly change them up, and extend their length, is worth it to me (currently have Tr8, DrumBrute, DrumBrute Impact, Volca Kick, with a Tempest down the pipeline). Also, the thing that has been forgotten/ignored in most of the discussions here is price, the joint is ONLY $200, compared to the $800 Push 2, its a pretty safe move. I've dabbled in tons of small MIDI controllers between different DAWs and for what you are getting out of this for those who aren't married to a mouse, is worth the $200. Key though is married to the mouse. If you do everything with a mouse, just skip this entirely. This is definitely more for the outboard folks.

Will it sync to other sequencers? I can see how it will work fl studio but I thought it didn’t have a standalone sequencer. If it does that’s pretty cool

No indication that it has a standalone sequencer. Like you said it wood be dope.

Step sequencer for this thing is going to be a awesome experience because of the way Akai set it up on the machine to look exactly like what's in the software. But I have the best step sequencer for ME in Reason, I can't give that up, it's so easy to use and so forgiving.

But the way they did it and set it up was genius!

No one else thought of doing this the way they did it. I think dudes are going to eat this up. Just look at the cats here running to get it, and getting two LOL


But you know what's going to happen? From a Business point, Akai, if this works for them, you can say goodbye to keeping the upgrades to the Live/X software and firmware. They are going where the money is, so be prepared for the crap when it comes to our Machines.

It was mentioned earlier that there was two separate teams with onworking specifically on the Live/X and one working on the Fire. With the benefit of the Fire really going to Live/X users.

If it can scroll through the loops and reflect the step sequencer on the live it becomes an awesome little device..... perfect for editing
