MPC/ MPC Forum veterans, what are your X/ Live verdicts?

You're going to get Parameter Lock, Constant Midi, Gross Beats, Side Chaining, Disk Streaming, Ability to invert the screen, Automatic Beat Maker, Finger Print unlock screen, Apple Care, HDMI out, Push Midi over USB, and the compose like Hans Zimmer button.

Having owned basically all the MPC's since the 2000, i think the live is a pretty good MPC. its definitely best MPC since the 1000 to me.

Im not the greatest fan of the software so i wont comment on that too much but as a standalone i couldnt really have asked for too much more.
I will say that it is an MPC in the sense that there are limitations to it but where it differs from all the previous standalone MPCs is the fact that it makes alot of what was a chore into a breeze. The chopping and editing of samples in it are so much better than on anything previous. I love the way i can run a drum loop and stretch samples to match the loop. There is a lot to be impressed with here.

If you are looking to buy a Live thinking its going to be a revolution with regards to features then you will be disappointed but if you look at it compared to the last standalone MPC released (5000) then i dont doubt that you will be impressed by it because it is a clear step ahead.

Hey there.Ive also owned over the period of 25 years or there abouts most of the MPC s.Big fan here.Used the 4000 many many years.In fact it was my center piece.Also ran the 5000 back then next to it for a good while.Always kept the 4000 tho.Anyways in the last 2 years ive ran the 2500 and the 1000.Actually great machines.To me they are raw and hard hitting.I recently purchased a 5000 "again".........and man this thing is really a beast.For me,rock solid and has been 1000% reliable.Its so dependable and does what it does without any bling.And i can get it sounding as good as anything using the effects and filters.Its actually an extreme processor.Same code as the live/X/SW but is more raw and potent.Switched out the HD for SSD and tape mod on the pads make it superior to the 4000 ect and far superior to the live.Its a very present machine with all the ins and outs ect built in........Not perfect and what is.Fair play to Akai moving on with the new machines but not getting all the hate as usual.

(in my opinion the live sounds bland and uninspiring compared the the 5000.I will not purchase one for this reason.Also i dont wanna mess with touch screens ectBut im quite content with the SW 1.9 atm.Mousing around on the big screen and using my own sound cards.It works well,5000 definately has more character and warmth tho and the processing has more presence)

Many people are looking for an Incredible, Innovating machine. But how many are actually willing to fork over the cash for that Machine. Let's take the MPC 3000 that came out in 1993, it was $3500 US Dollar. However, if you add inflation the cost today would be: $6080.58.

With that said, what would a $6000 US Dollar machine look like to you? Based on the price of the MPC X of $2,599 list price, the machine would more than double in capabilities. If anyone wants a full fledged sampler, sequencer, midi controller, multi track recorder, audio interface, that supports VST's and have lots of I/O's, it's going to cost.

MPC5000-Ulimited multitrack disk streaming.Obviously not for samples tho.Very useful tho.

Yeah and we did not have practical computer tech then.Thats the problem (for me) to justify even spending street price on Live/X when the SW $100 does the same thing ultimately.Thats why use earlier models that offer a slight different sound/feel.Something different.

Yes, the software is $100 but how much is the computer that runs the software? Controller, Audio Interface, Monitor, Motherboard, CPU, RAM, GPU, OS, Power Supply, Case, Recording Software.

2-300$ second hand.Im not saying its too much cash to spend for what it is just that i dont really need it.Ive got 2 old macbook pro's that run it fine.I really dont like the new 'style' dance music fashioned look with lights and rubber ectect.You better have a warrantee for that screen ect as well

edit-i can get the 2.2 software and library for £45 on ebay too.And i like the full SW on the comp with the mouse ect.I can just take my Macbook and tweak it easy anywhere.And ableton.

That may be fine for working in the box, however if you ever want to work with live musicians and vocalist. You're going to need more than a Macbook and Ableton.
