Hi all,

For a project I'm currently working on I need to quantize controller data.

I've setup a q-link controller and then I recorded it's movements to a track in a sequence. I would like these data to be quantized somehow - in 1/4, 1/8 or other resolutions.

Is there a way to do that on the mpc?

I tried checking out the q-link sequence feature but I need to loop at least 8 bars of data on a lot of tracks so it doesn't seem to be able to fit my needs...

I also tried to open the sequence as a midi file in logic on my computer but the controller data doesn't show up?

It would off course save me a great deal of time if I could edit the data on the mpc.

Hope someone can help me and thanks a lot for any suggestions!

it feels like something you could do with Qlink sequence, but i'm not senior enough :wink: to tell you how !
in sequence window you can choose the steps, i guess you'd just have to link your knob to a controller then...i don't know, explore that way.

I don't think there's a way that the q-link sequence can be 8 bars long + I need to have 20 different controller data running at the same time so I need to do it preferably on the mpc with some kind of quantization of recorded data - or post editing the data on a computer.

Any more ideas?

Hi pixel,

The TC function only corrects the timing of notes. Not sure how I would do this...

If you use a multichange on the beginning of each bar using controller 0 bank select you can change a multi and each multi could contain its own qlink sequence... so you can have those 8 bars if you want. if you change the controller send in qlink send page you can use 20 different controllers also.


Otherwise: It is a hell of a job but you could add the value curves manually in Seq edit when you insert a controller number... :(
- SEQ edit
- change view to controller
- press overdub
- F6 Insert
- For each upward or downward movement of each controllernumber insert a time span and a curve.

But with that much data it probably is not what you'd like to do with your time... Do you have sequencer software installed on a computer? It might be possible with Logic or something. But I am not sure. If I think of something soon I will let you know.

Yes the TC function unfortunately only corrects notes :-(

The q-link suggestion is smarter than I thought of myself but I still need to have my whole set up and running so that would not be possible.

And you're right - I'm not really ready to do everything manually in seq edit :-)

So it seems that editing the data in logic would be the best - and the only possible way.
But I had some problems when importing a sequence file from the mpc into logic - the controller data is missing?

Have you tried importing a mpc sequence into logic (or any other midi capable computer program for that matter) containing controller data?

wow bleepfreak really brainstormed that one :wink:

dunno it's a hell of alot of work but what you can do is chain the qlink seqquence's together...

zo:
loop your sequence two bars if Qlink is set to 1/8th notes (1/8th note= two bars)

Program your qlink sequence while looping the two bars and then Record it (just enter seq recording mode while q seq is on)

then move your seq looppoints to the next two bars and reprogram the Qlink sequence, then record again: i.e. just repeat untill you're done all 8 bars...

I don't know what I did wrong yesterday but today I had no problems editing the data on the computer.

I already tried out your suggestion - great!

I'm going to use this for a project with a loudspeaker system of 18 speakers that are placed in a circle. The controller data will control the 360 degree angle of the output of each track and also how wide (how many loudspeakers at a time) the output is.

I'll definately try out both possibilities - q-link sequence and computer editing.
